So, there's been an update about the proposed Halloween TV series. It says quite a bit but at the same time, it doesn't say much at all.

QuoteHalloween TV series: "A creative reset"

Miramax Television in October signed a deal with Trancas to develop and co-produce a Halloween TV series, which is envisioned to potentially launch a cinematic universe spanning film and television. (Miramax and Blumhouse collaborated with Trancas on the successful recent Halloween movie trilogy.)

"We're on a fast track, it's a big priority for us. We've had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I think we'll have a pretty good idea of what we're going to be doing very soon," Helwig said, adding, "We're hoping to lock down the creative team very soon."

While the search for a writer is still ongoing, the idea for the TV series already has been identified.

"It's a big world," Helwig said of the 13-movie franchise. The most recent trilogy culminating with Halloween Ends provided a fitting conclusion to the story, "so I don't think that is an opportunity to go off the back of that."

So the series is going back to the Halloween franchise's origins.

"The foundation of it is the original film, the John Carpenter movie, the characters of that film, and perhaps a group of characters that we haven't really focused on that much in recent film versions or even in a number of them," Helwig said. "It's a creative reset completely and going back to the original film, as opposed to spinning out of any of the more recent film adaptations."

I have no idea what it is about media types that they'll use the word "reboot" in every gd possible context except the CORRECT one.

So, is this a reboot? Is it a continuation of something else? Good luck trying to figure it out based on all that verbal diarrhea. "It's a creative reset completely and going back to the original film". Wtf does that even mean??

3C Films is being a lot more charitable about all this than me.

It's early days yet. Maybe a little too early for me to get as annoyed as I am right now. But when these media dickwipes talk out of both sides of their mouths like that, it's frustrating. If they're going to issue a public statement, then the absolute LEAST they can do is make it coherent. "Yeah it's a reset which directly ties in with the original!" Whaaaa??

Hopefully, the rest of you aren't as cranky tonight as I apparently am.

I've only seen the movie once and that was on opening day in its theatrical run.

But this popped up in my YouTube recommends so I watched it. And I guess I'd forgotten how brutal this Batman is. Some of the injuries he inflicted in this fight scene will be lifelong.

What stood out to me this whole time was the emphasis on Batman as a detective. Which is great. But this Batman is also a major league ass-kicker. And that's something you could argue is somewhat missing from previous incarnations of the character. Yeah, Affleck messed a lot of people up.

But it's still pretty arguable if Pattinson is more deadly than Affleck.

Maybe it's time I finally give The Batman a rewatch...

It's funny. I've seen the SNL Superman's 50th Anniversary special a few times. But until now, I guess I didn't realize that the bald guy was always supposed to be Lex Luthor.

Strange.

Okay, so Gunn released a glimpse of the Superman ("Legacy" is no longer part of the title) suit.

There are obvious similarities to this symbol and Kingdom Come.

What's less obvious, and what pretty much nobody else is talking about, is the similarity to the Superman- Earth One symbol.

Specifically, the gold outline. This design element is unique to JMS's Earth One Superman. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other version that ever included this feature.

One question I've got is whether the cape will include a symbol on the back. Bryan Singer omitted the cape symbol to simplify life for the visual effects team. Zack Snyder deleted it because he thought the cape would look better without the symbol.

So, it would be kind of nice if someone would add it back to Superman's cape. I'm getting a little tired of the cape symbol getting written out of existence.

Anyway. Thoughts?

Would be nice if Moranis came back. He's doing a new Honey I Shrunk The Kids movie (how many of these does ANYBODY need?), so why not Ghostbusters?

These are my objections too. I don't need a BTAS-flavored variant of the mainstream comics. BTAS was always its own thing and nobody minded that back then.

I'd love to know whose brilliant idea it was to take this approach.

Quote from: The Dark Knight on Sun, 18 Feb  2024, 03:10The interpretation I have is Bateman did commit a bunch of murders, but as his mental state deteriorates the exact body count becomes unclear. The scene of Bateman gunning down the man behind the desk, then returning to see him alive, is a prime example of that. The realtors ignoring the blood soaked apartment in order to resell it makes the story better, on top of others either knowing but not caring/ignoring it, or outright not believing him. Bateman is forever stuck in a loop of his routine with no escape.
I guess I had the more superficial reading (of the film) that Bateman legit committed all those murders. But he lives in such a self-absorbed bubble that nobody believes him when he confesses and he unintentionally has alibis for all of the murders because cares enough about anyone else to remember their names.

Basically, Bateman devalues human life in one way while his peers devalue human life in other ways.

Still, fun fact about American Psycho. Apparently, Edward Norton was considered (to some degree or another) for Bateman. And while I love Bale in the role, I have to admit that I wonder what Norton might've done with the character.

In brief, this YouTuber is skeptical of the Gunnverse's prospects. He outlines his reasons as to why. Some of which have already been mentioned in this thread and others.

And, like me, he's even more skeptical of Superman's prospects as a successful film franchise. Obviously, I love Superman and want to believe that he'll always have massive, enduring popularity.

But "massive and enduringly popular" is not how I would summarize Superman's big screen exploits since 2006 going right on through to right now.

To be clear, I'm not rooting for SL's failure. Yet. I'm just saying that I don't think Superman has the mainstream appeal now that he had back in the Fifties and Sixties.

Jimmy offers his thoughts about the prospects of a Halloween 04 requel. Apparently, people are talking about that as something more than a hypothetical. Dannielle Harris, Dwight Little, Scout Taylor-Compton (for some reason) (no idea why) and also Halloween fans.

I'm obviously open to that. I've never liked the Michael/Laurie sibling angle that's baked into the cake there. But Danielle Harris coming back for a REAL sequel to Halloween 04 solves a lot for me.

I'm still not sold on the idea of a TV show tho. Just doesn't add up for me.

But it should probably go without saying that a Halloween 04 requel would do well to avoid the Cult of Thorn stuff.

Quote from: Silver Nemesis on Sun, 11 Feb  2024, 15:29I really like how Cox's new costume looks in these early pics. It's probably the best live action DD costume we've seen so far. If they can do as good a job with Bullseye, I'll be thrilled.
I agree about it being the best. But I don't have a problem with most of the Daredevil suits we've seen in live action.

I even like Affleck's. It's very much a product of its time, sure. But it has a lot of charm in it for me.

The only outfit that I've come to hold in low regard is the gold/red suit from She-Hulk. And I've been trying to figure out if I dislike the aesthetic or if the She-Hulk stink is simply ruining it for me. Tough to say.

But this BA suit looks great. The black trim offsets the bright red in an effective way. I'm no costume designer. But in some other thread about an early Nineties live action Daredevil show, I suggested the possibility of a red/black costume because I thought those two colors would blend well with each other. So far, the BA suit is bolstering my case.
