WB's surprise hit last year, Suicide Squad, has been given the greenlight to start filming in October 2018. It will be written and directed by Gavin O'Connor, who helmed the successful Affleck film, The Accountant.
Suicide Squad, much to the surprise of some, opened to an excellent $135.1 million in its first weekend, breaking the previous August record held by another superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians made $94.3 million in its debut. Suicide Squad went on to gross $750 million worldwide, making it a huge success for WB and DC Films.
The plot details are under wraps at the moment but many speculate that some of the main players like Will Smith's Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harlequin and Jared Leto's Joker will again take the lead. Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam is rumoured to be the super powered villain that the Squad will have to go up against.
Suicide Squad 2 is scheduled for release in either late 2019 or early 2020.
