Quote from: The Joker on Mon, 21 Apr  2025, 23:50I guess that could work, though I know it's just Gunn wanting to put his own spin on a character most people have never heard of, and naturally, you can get away with it. However, I think Ultra and the Syndicate would have much more profound dramatic weight in the grand scheme of things, as unknown invaders from a alternate earth that are here to take over, rather than a defeated villain returning once again with a posse of his own. I don't know. The stakes seem higher with the former, than the latter...
I'm concerned about the villain choice of Ultraman. It could feel generic and samey from what we've already had with Zod and the evil Superman from III. I was hoping for someone radically different like Bizarro or Metallo. But I'l give it a chance. I have a suspicion it could be about providing commentary on the darker interpretations of Superman we've had in recent times like Injustice or Snyder's Knightmare timeline.

Way I see it, we'll always have B89 and BR. Even The Flash leaned heavily into homages ("I'm Batman", "let's get nuts", "how much do you weigh?", moon silhouette imagery etc), suggesting the most meaningful things from his tenure had already been said and done. Which helped make me accept I don't need anything else. I have his duology and the original Batman Beyond TV show, and I've been enjoying the latter a whole lot in recent times. It could look better visually, but I don't think a live action adaption could match it overall, anyway.

Seems like a positive sign to me.

I'm liking what I see of Corenswet, and in general I'm feeling better about the movie. It seems to have the heart and soul thing which I love about Spider-Man 2 going for it. The lighter, comic tone is a nice change of pace and we still have discussion of the serious themes. I have concerns about the movie going political, but at the moment that remains to be seen. It's the closest we've been to a big screen STAS, which remains my favorite interpretation. I'm rooting for the Superman brand to have a win here.

Same here. I'm still not sure what to make of this movie. It could go either way. But I want it to be good. It doesn't need to be a perfect 10 out of 10 film. It just needs to tell an entertaining, well-paced story, give us characters we care about, and hopefully show us a few things we've not seen before in a Superman movie. I'll be content with that.
