I'm not gonna denny it, I'm as giddy as a 5 year old on X-Mas days at this news. :)

Wasn't Nolan very strict about the so-called "realism" and adamant about giving his version of Batman a definite ending?

His possible reasoning was to offer zero possibility in someone else taking over his continuity, or have his version of Batman co-exist with a larger live action DCU (he was no doubt aware of WB's plans).

This is exactly what will happen if Nolan and Bale act as a "bridge" between their trilogy and a live action DCU.

If this is legit, what happened behind the scenes?
Exactly. Nolan can try to explain it anyway he likes - but his philosophy was that these characters were in separate universes, and if the rumors hold true, then he's going back on that. Stripping fantastical elements from Batman and then suddenly it's fine. Recently with Lego Batman 2 and rewatching World's Finest I've been into these teamups, but this one is a little hard to swallow and believe its really the go.

At this point it's merely a rumour but this news has potentially become more exciting to me than a new trilogy of Star Wars pictures. Since when has a former Batman publicly "stepped down" and then (although again could be complete nonsense) perhaps decided on a massive u-turn? It opens up a world of future possibilities too namely if Bale can return could previous Batmen also follow suit one day (Mr Keaton)? On another hand were would this leave the single Batman series of movies? More Bale pictures or a new cast continuing in that style if this rumour proves true?

Christian Bale seems quite unpopular these days but I remember being delighted on his first casting back in 2004. Keaton will always be my personal favourite but Bale has built up an era all his own that Kilmer and Clooney never achieved. He's the best Batman since Burton's days. Faced with the choice of Joseph Gordon Levitt or him I think you'd be mad not to want the latter in this team up film.

Bale returning is "news to Warners"

Not returning? I hope this report is true.

Ah well it was a nice idea while it lasted. Guess it's back to the boring, lame ass choices for his successor then lol Michael Fassbender??? Jake Gylenhaal??? Give me a break  :(

Am I the only one who thinks it might be kind of funny to have a JLA movie that did try to fit within the "realistic" boundaries of Nolan's Bat-trilogy? Just imagine how all the classic heroes could be Nolanised.

•   Barry Allen/the Flash would be a track runner whose speed maxes out at 25 miles per hour. The lightning bolt emblem would be the corporate logo of his sponsor.

•   The Green Lantern ring would actually be a web ring comprised of engineers in various fields. Whenever Hal Jordon imagines something, he uploads the designs to the Green Lantern website and members of the web ring construct the various components and send them to him.

•   Aquaman would be a scuba diver. It doesn't need to get any more complicated than that.

•   Captain Marvel would be a bodybuilder suffering from the delusion that he's actually a ten year old boy. "Shazam" is the trigger word his psychiatrist uses to bring him out of trances during hypnotherapy. He has no super powers beyond his steroid-induced physical strength.

•   Robin is a cop whose name just happens to be Robin.

Etc, etc. It would be a lousy superhero movie, but it might make a decent comedy.

^ You forgot to mention that they're all on personal quests for revenge.

Great ideas SN! Particularly for Shazam!

Ha! What a way to illustrate how ridiculous this obsession with "realism" can be.
