Messages - The Dark Knight

TDK greatly improves over the similar Batman (1989) moments:

In TDK, Joker refuses to move, Batman stands down adhering to his no killing policy, and swerves out of the way. In doing so, he falls off the bike and is rendered unconscious. Joker essentially ?wins? without doing a thing, and moves over to take care of Batman ? before being arrested by Gordon.

This is MUCH better than the similar Batman (1989) moment, where Batman swoops down in the Batwing and opens fire on Joker, only to be shot down. There, he looks incompetent with his missile aim (that or his equipment is faulty )and a killer ? neither which he is. He could be trying to intimidate the Joker, but I don't see him taking that risk.

In TDK, Joker falls off the building and is saved. A lot better than falling to his death, which was an epic mistake in Batman (1989)

The Joker meeting the mob in TDK is better too. The Joker's 'magic trick', where he kills a man by impaling his head on an upright pencil, is fantastic. Ledger is a joy to watch, it is as if he has electricity running through his body. I love him revealing his stash of grenades in his jacket as well. Like Nicholson said, Heath brought The Joker to another level.

That may be so, but nostalgia can only go so far. Having been a fan of Batman (1989) and Jack's Joker, it is clear to me that Heath is superior. It is the best interpretation of the character in any medium. Ledger is the benchmark now. I don't see this being topped, ever. Good luck to the fellow who tries.

The birthday has long since gone, but she looks amazing for 50. She is the BEST Catwoman ever!

Having listened heavily to TDK soundtrack, I can say it is satisfactory. I only like Why So Serious, A Little Push and Like A Dog Chasing Cars in their entirety.

Why So Serious is a great way to start the soundtrack and is a very good track for The Joker. Like A Dog Chasing Cars is the only real heroic theme in the soundtrack. It ends with some segments of the two note Joker theme that I think is a good touch. This is my favourite of all the tracks. I like A Little Push as well; it begins with hissing that builds anticipation, then flat lines into a crackling, thunderderish and unstable sound. It then moves into a deep dread filled echo, and ends the track in a quiet sinister motif.

The rest of the soundtrack I like segments of. For example, there are elements of the Why So Serious arrangement spliced here and there throughout the score. Other sinister sounds not associated with it, but obviously belonging to the Joker also feature. For example, the long wailing siren that builds suspense heard in Agent of Chaos for instance, the siren with clanging over the top of it in the Always A Catch opening.

The soundtrack works for the film and creates the atmosphere. This soundtrack is about implication and menace. It just isn't really made to be listened to on its own. In the film is when it comes to life.

I am feeling the loss of his death even more after seeing the film. Such a waste, his career would have exploded after this. Seeing him on screen didn't make me cry or sad, it made me smile. Where ever you are Heath, you did an amazing job, and thank you for doing so. You made all the Batman fans very happy. This will go down as one of THE great performances, and the benchmark for The Joker on film. It is a deep shame he will never reprise this role.

Before I saw TDK I watched Begins the day before. I thought Begins was excellent, but TDK beat it out. The two Nolan films look and feel very alike and together, unlike the two Burton films.

The viral campaigning is over. I'm almost sad, it has been a terrific build up to the release and it never let up.

I highly doubt we will be seeing any TDK game on a next generation console at this stage.

Jack Nicholson had this to say about Heath Ledger's portayal of The Joker:

"Heath has taken him to a new level.  I couldn't tear my eyes away."
Nicholson is being a good sport, his assessment is correct. Heath had nothing but respect for Jack's portrayal. It is clear to me that Ledger is the better of the two by a fair margin.
