Fri, 3 Jan 2020, 05:40
Now that the decade of the 2010's are over, what are your fave movies of films from 2010 to 2019?

2010: The Town, The Fighter, True Grit, Tron: Legacy, Iron Man 2, Piranah 3D.

2011: Limitless, X-Men: First Class, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Real Steel, Drive, Warrior.

2012: Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-Man, Expendables 2, The Master, Dredd, Argo, Flight, Skyfall, Life of Pi, Hitchcock, Django Unchained.

2013: Evil Dead (remake), Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Monsters, Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle, Her, Wolf of Wall Street.

2014: Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Sin City 2 (well, the Eva Green parts anyways), Gone Girl, Birdman, John Wick, Nightcrawler, Interstellar, The Gambler.

2015: Chappie, Mad Max: Fury Road, Jurassic World, Straight Outta Compton, Pawn Sacrifice, 99 Homes, Spectre, Legend, Creed, In the Heart of the Sea.

2016: 10 Cloverfield Lane, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Jungle Book (live action), The Shallows, Suicide Squad, War Dogs, Rogue One, The Founder, Shin Godzilla.

2017: Split. Logan, Kong Skull Island, Life, Wonder Woman, War for the Planet of the Apes, IT: Chapter One, Blade Runner 2049, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, My Friend Dahmer, I Tonya.

2018: Death Wish (remake), Mission Impossible Fallout, The Meg, Venom, The Grinch, Creed 2, The Mule, Bumblebee.

2019: Glass, Dumbo, John Wick 3, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Crawl, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Rambo Last Blood, Joker, Doctor Sleep.

Might have missed a few, other movies I like/liked, but don't find myself revisiting. So I didn't list them, and some are there due to a good theater experience, and not solely on the overall quality of the movie itself.

I figure since we're starting to get official WW 1984 footage now, it's about time for a new Wonder Woman movie thread.

Just watched this one earlier tonight.

Man, what a entertaining movie! Full of gore, and multiple scenes of scumbag sex traffickers getting brutally dismembered in a no apologies slaughterfest just speaks to my soul. Last Blood, in the Rambo series, decidedly focuses upon on the element of revenge. Which, overall made this movie feel more like a satisfying finale. Rambo wants his adversaries to feel his rage. And son, does he ever bring the pain. I understand that there is a longer cut of this, and that's something that I would be highly interested in seeing. I recently checked out the unrated cut of the previous film,  Rambo (Rambo IV) in prep for this (can't believe it's been 10 years since that was out), which actually kept the original working title of "John Rambo", and there was some scenes/cuts I liked more in that cut, but scenes/cuts I preferred in the theatrical version.

Not to give anything away, but yeah. The finale is a heart-stopper. Literally.

All in all, good times. Enjoyed the hell out of it. And before going in, I noticed RT hates this movie. Pretty much just more incentive for me to buy my ticket and check it out early.

John Rambo is a national treasure.

Anyone else picking this up?

After the Amazon price drop from the initial $112.99 to $101.61, I finally bit and have the set pre-ordered. The fact that this set also includes the blu ray versions of "Mask of the Phantasm", and "Sub Zero" makes me even more glad I waited on buying those two. Which resulted in buying this set even more appealing.

Evidently, one of the ideas is that Alf has been in some bunker at Area 51 since the original series finale and he emerges to see how much the world has changed.

Comic Film & TV / Sony's VENOM Movie
Fri, 19 May 2017, 23:43

Looks like Sony has it's Venom alien symbiote host Eddie Brock with .... Tom Hardy!

Not bad, Sony. Not bad. I had some minimal interest in a solo Venom movie, but with this bit of casting, I can safely say that my interest in this project has gone up significantly. Truly, a outstanding choice for Brock. The embargo of complainers about Hardy's Venom being divorced from the MCU has, of course, already begun, but personally, I am A OK with this. Why's that? Simple. Being that there is no way in hell Disney is going to produce a R rated Marvel movie, a actual Venom movie would probably benefit from such a move. The Venom lore easily lends itself to a more mature audience, and given the success of non-MCU films like Deadpool and Logan, Sony is all too aware of this as well.

QuoteDredd was a great movie that not enough people went to see. A sequel looks like it won't be happening, but it does appear that we will be getting a TV version.
IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion have struck a deal to make Judge Dredd: Mega City One. The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them. Early development has begun on the show, and talent will be announced at a later date.
Very exciting. It would be so good if they could get Karl Urban back as Dredd, but we will have to wait and see.
Judge Dredd was created by John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra in 1977 and first appeared in 2000 AD, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Attached as executive producers of the new show are IM Global Television president Mark Stern, who developed Battlestar Galactica, Helix, and Defiance at Syfy; IM Global Television CEO Stuart Ford; and the owners of Rebellion, Jason and Chris Kingsley, who along with Ford were also executive producers of the 2012 Dredd film.

"This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age," said Stern in a statement. "Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it's also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it's a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television."
"We're very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd's Mega-City One on the television screen," said Jason and Chris Kingsley said. "Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public."

Evidently, WB are going forward in adapting Watchmen as an animation in the style of the comic book and release it DTV.

Not to be confused with the DTV Motion Comic released back in 2009 (damn I feel old typing that).

Here's the trailer.

Other DC Films & TV / Aquaman (2018)

Aquaman

Directed by James Wan

Starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman

Amber Heard as Mera

Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta

Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus

Looks like Aquaman has a pretty good cast, and I've grown increasingly interested in seeing this. Never been all that well versed in Aquaman comics, but I did enjoy the animated film Justice League Throne of Atlantis, and if Wan and Momoa can exceed that, then Aquaman will be off to a very good start!
