Batman (1989) / Re: RIP Prince

There are a couple of extra songs that made their way onto the singles as B-sides. I consider them part of the movie too! lol

They are: 200 Balloons, Feel U Up ("Lemmme touch your body babe, let me feel u up...") and I Love U In Me. You may wish to add the much later released Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic as one, it was the song originally intended before Partyman became invented! And of course there is the unreleased Dance With The Devil which on occasion can be found briefly on Youtube and is no doubt presently contained somewhere deep within the legendary Prince Vault of thousands of unreleased tracks. There is also the extended version of Vicki Waiting. The version heard on the album is not the one heard at the Wayne party in the film. It too has popped up briefly on Youtube...elusively.

Scandalous is particularly interesting. If you've seen the Purple Rain film there is an interesting subplot that appears loosely based on fact that Prince's father had written occasional music. In the film he uses his failed father's compositions to form the track Computer Blue. In the real world Scandalous is credited as being co-written by John L Nelson, Prince' father. It appears it really is partially true and that is both cool and very touching.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone did art like this. I had the precise same idea in mind. Why not post this on The Prince Museum page on Facebook? They'll love it!

Batman (1989) / Re: RIP Prince

There have only been three real times where major personalities passing's have affected me to the point where I'm embarrassed to admit I've almost shed tears. The first being Christopher Reeve and the second Harold Ramis. Prince is the third.

Beyond devastated by this. In the Superman franchise we of course have lost faces like Jackie Cooper, Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor over the years but Prince is really the first major person we have now lost from the Batman franchise. He was by all means the single last person I expected to depart first. From here on in things will get worrying.

I never got a chance to see him. I came close all too recently. There were reports of him bringing his Piano and a Microphone tour here to Liverpool but those plans alas seemed to be cancelled after the Paris attacks of last year. Now they will never come to be.

I first saw his image in, of all places, my old Panini Batman movie sticker album. A two page section on him featuring photo's from his then Lovesexy tour. I remember being astounded reading his apparent ability to play all his instruments himself and produce his music. Which I interpreted at him playing guitar, drums and keyboards all at the precise same time! lol Still even at that young age I knew this man had something special about him.

So grateful he was given that film project in 1989. It introduced me to him (at just the age of one) and thrilled my young imagination. As Jack Nicholson memorably tore apart a Gotham art museum it was the magical music of Prince that allowed we, as an audience, to revel in the fun on-screen wickedness of this classic character through the funkiest beat Gotham City will ever hear. A moment that will live in film and music history forever. Thank you for making me happy Prince! The bat signal shines in love and respect for YOU tonight...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB-fSOds9AU

Movies / Re: Most Anticipated Films of 2016

I'm afraid I've been suckered in by Ghostbusters lol Against my better judgement I've decided to go and see it. I mean it's the best we're ever gonna get to a number 3, like it or not. This is also probably the last time ever you will see Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver e.c.t, however brief or not, in any new Ghostbusters project. I doubt completely any original cast will ever return in any potential sort of future movies and so I'd rather go and join the party even if I hate myself later.

But I've already had the pleasure of experiencing my personal most anticipated film: The Jungle Book. And while I too am excited for new Ninja Turtles and the Independence Day sequel, nothing shall top the colorful, adventure masterpiece I just witnessed. I'd literally been waiting to see that intriguing project for three long years while many had all too little faith or interest in it. So it fills me with glee that it didn't disappoint (well perhaps on a Scarlett Johansson and ending level!) and to see everybody waking up and giving it respect where it's due.

I hate the word, it's destined to join 80's sayings like "wicked" and erm, "ace" in the dustbin of language embarrassment but the music in that film was.....epic *cringe*. I think somebody should seriously eye John Debney as a potential new Batman composer? He basically took the classic Disney 1967 music and transformed it into a John Williams styled Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom magnum opus of excitement and scariness. This track in particular, "The Red Flower", practically blew me through the back wall of the theater. Here at 1:38, as Mowgli dashes through the dark jungle with stolen fire, a demonic choir belts out the theme to Kaa the snake's Trust In Me with such power. As my favorite of the songs it was joy to the ear (there is a special treat in the credits too courtesy of "Lucy" herself). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZhguC1BHVEYou There were definite Batman Returns/Edward Scissorhands-esque Elfman choir moments on this score, particular during the recreation of the 1967 main title music. You also haven't experienced true cinema this year until you see and hear Christopher Walken's King Louie performing I Wan'na Be Like You.

In Planes, Trains and Automobiles only John Candy can make you laugh and cry in equal measures. Desperately sad scenes at the end. Not to mention the Steve Martin hotel rant near the beginning. A scene that starts off so bloody funny ("Next time you have one of these stories here's an idea....have a point!!...") that suddenly shifts to a heart melting performance from Candy. I'm not seeing many guys in comedy these days who can do that.

Didn't she once stalk actor James Woods and he had to get a restraining order...or something? It took me a while to realize this lady plays Harold Ramis' girlfriend in the movie Stripes. Which makes me wonder what on Earth he and Bill Murray made of her...?

I certainly take issue with her Candy comments. Watching him in any of his movies is like watching my own dad. He had a LOT in common with Candy's many characters especially in the 1988 movie The Great Outdoors (believe me that story is realer in my family than you'd expect from that tiny comedy film! lol). If he did snort coke well, who cares anyway? The poor man is long since gone and much missed. What he got up to in his personal time for his own benefits is nothing that's any of my business. At least he never went off and did an OJ Simpson! lol

If he were alive and hearing her saying these baffling things he'd possibly give the response: "Take this quarter, go downtown and have a RAT gnaw that thing off yer face!" lol

I'm very sorry but Batman got severe competition this year! And never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be a Disney film that would outclass him lol But sadly for me, it has.
It seems that way, doesn't it.  :-\

But hopefully Batman, even Batfleck, can bounce back.  :)

When Affleck is up against something as crazily magnificent as THIS he hasn't a chance of capturing my imagination in this year.

Reviews continue to be absolutely sparkling. Although I'm a tad concerned about Scarlett Johansson as my favorite character of all. Reports say she's excellent....but a bit brief in the plot.  :(  Hope I shall not be too disappointed. On the other hand she does get to do THIS!

Well....she's done Richard Sherman and Siouxsie And The Banshees proud with that one!   ;D

Quite blown away by what I'm hearing about it on a music level. This may be the greatest movie soundtrack in a loooooooooooooong time. Christopher Walken has been 100% confirmed as singing "I Wanna Be Like You"!......Bill and Ted exclamation, "NO WAY!!" lol I mean that's just incredibly remarkable stuff to have a legend like him perform something as legendary as that. Then you have Bill Murray taking on "The Bare Necessities" which has already been previewed on Jimmy Kimmel in the US. But easily the biggest surprise for me is the absolutely incredible news that producer Mark Ronson (a gentleman I have great respect for especially after helping make a terrific Duran Duran album, "All You Need Is Now") has helped produced a new version of The Jungle Book's creepiest tune, "Trust In Me", with Scarlett Johansson. A ton of remixes are on the way too (could this show potential as a single to promote the movie on the charts?). This I believe plays through the end credits so there's a hell of a reason for me to stick em out till the end.

Wow, in the words of King Louie: "Craaaaazily" exciting stuff.
