Yeah, the joker doesn't even know who he's really waving at.  Plus the makeup was unique too.

Batman (1989) / Re: come on knox

I think knox and vicki were the best characters for that movie.  Period.

Knox and Vicki trying to figure out batman give us the audience a more down to earth point of view that really enlightens us.  Plus, I like the fact that knox and vicki weren't like normal people in that they weren't selfish and they didn't like the scum of gotham any more than batman did.  Plus, nobody believed in batman except for knox, which shows his character right there.

Maybe some people think Vicki was annoying.  I think the opposite.  I think she was smart and the crux of the whole movie.  She was batmans love and was going to be jokers harley quinn (felicia killed herself).  She was the one who needed to be saved in the cathedral.

All I know is is that Knox and Vicki provided heart and the regular person mindset that any batman movie should have.

Batman sites........ are hard.  Take any superhero.  A Flash site.  A Green Lantern site.  If they were made into movies, their would be no artistry, it would be the comics onto the big screen.  And therefore, nobody would be mad at the movie and would have common ground for conversation.  But since batman is a more complicated hero (no powers), batman sites really have to be batman movie sites.  But I think this one has balanced everyones views nicely.

Of course, recent incarnations of green lantern have him black and flash to be a jokester but........ :D

Plus, and I just thought of this, everybody knew her and would wonder who would kill such an innocent person.

Also, I think it shows how much christmas was commercicalized and was made to be all about looks.  More about going through the motions of the material christmas.  Maybe I think too much.  Maybe I don't.

Plus it was the opening act for the joker and gotham was its theatre.  This was gothams first view of the joker.

Plus, you got to love the miming.  I mean, thats just awesome.

I also understand what johnnygobbs said about burton changing the preconceptions of what batman was.  The comics = muscular.  Burton = regular guy scaring people.  But going to the comics that doesn't fly.  And thats why I would've been mad.  I mean, their casting a pipsqueak for batman.

After people saw the movie though, they were definetely understanding what burton was doing.  Even if they didn't like it, they thought that what he did for batman and everything else fit into his world.

If I were back then, I would've expected a no name, handsome, big, but not too big, soon to be star.  Because, and I hope everybody understands this, making a batman movie is probably the biggest thing the motion industry had done for a long, long time.  I mean, the batman from the comics on film.  That'll be unbelievable.  As far as warner bros., I don't think they were the best company to make batman.  I don't think they had the right image (hence their casting options).  But, unlike a lot of people, I wasn't "swept off my feet" by burtons either.  (full respect- its a good movie- just personally).

By adding a little of the 60s batman, I meant the heart of that show, not the comedy.  I understand how you could get confused.  What I mean is, is that batman is dark.  But he's a hero and does have a heart.  I think that basic innocent hero should show itself a little in batman incarnations.

Now, what you guys are saying is that you were too young to really know who batman was to be mad at how they were changing him from the comics.
Now, this topic is before any trailer or any idea of where the movie was going.  Are you guys saying you didn't expect batman to be muscular?  To me, I just don't understand that.  I don't mind that people like keaton or burtons version.  But people had to have had an initial thought on who batman was, right?  I mean, even if you didn't know anything about batman, people knew he fought crime and dressed up like a bat.  To fight crime, people think fight skills and muscles-big guy.  Now burton changed that, I'm sure.  But isn't what I've said the logical initial thought on batman?

Mel Gibson.  I personally think he's a little too obvious (or too much of a pretty boy) to be batman but I understand why.  He's a good, serious actor with dark hair and handsome.  But I just don't think batmans for him.  I don't think Ray Liotta would've been a bad batman.  If I was back then, I would'ved expected Ray Liotta to be beefed up a little though.  Again, this is speculating before understanding what burton was doing.

I concur on the newcomer batman/superman thing.  And I would do the basic comic batman with a little bit of Batman 60s and Batman the animated series (highly underated).  But, your basic dark, crime fighting batman.

If I were with those fans, I probably would've been mad with them.  I mean, when even a person who doesn't like comic books at all thinks of batman, he knows he's a big, muscular guy who kicks peoples butt.
Again, I like Brendan Frasier.  He's big, he's likeable, but he would have to be serious to be batman.  And maybe darken his hair.

I think the uncle bingo is the most memorable in the movie, as far as a death is concerned (maybe not as gruesome but definetely memorable).

It had imagination, was simple, and was done in broad daylight for the whole world to see how messed up the joker was.

Ah, the ice princess.  I think she was put in the movie to be an easy hostage for the penguin and catwoman.  I mean, shes dumb and she's all about her looks (I guess there is nothing wrong with that, but it definetely doesn't help her).  The catwoman and the penguin instantly recognized her as a way too easy mark.
