Did the Joker kill her or did she actually commit suicide?
I always thought he killed her but I can?t help but feel that she might?ve killed herself because of the f***ed up life she had after Jack?s transformation, plus he was trying to get with Vicki.
Well, Joker says she jumped out her window to her death. I am compelled to believe him.
I always took it that The Joker killed her. He does say "..but, you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs".
He was done with Alicia - he was on to Vicki now, who he probably would have killed after a while too.
Hm, maybe.
I see The Joker as being very controlling. Alicia would have been driven out of her mind, and naturally couldn't take it any more, and killed herself. Joker would have hated this, with Alicia taking the power from his hands, and being a message she hated what he had become.
Joker's line about not making an omelette without breaking eggs, well, I think it shows he's over her and doesn't really care. He smashes her face mask and laughs. Time to move on to Vicki.
It felt like a psycho inventing a (to him) plausible reason for his ex's absence to his new girl. "Her? Oh, uh, she, uh... tripped. And fell. Yeah. Fell down, um, 10,000 flights of stairs. Yeah, that's the ticket! She was basically pudding by the time she hit the bottom, right, and then she got run over by a herd of hydrophobic reindeer. Next thing you know, a shark with legs crawled out of the toilet and ate her to death until she was dead, or whatever! Mmm, sad. So anyway, you free for lunch?"
C'mon, he did it.
It can be interpreted both ways, both are plausible.
If he hadn't smashed her mask on the fireplace after he made the "...breaking some eggs" remark, I would've been almost 100% it was suicide. It was him breaking the mask and the way in which he laughed at it that made it seem like a punch-line.
I really love that this "smashing mask" scene combined with the speech, clearly establishes the Joker as a really dangerous guy and not a "sweet uncle with a smile" ;D
Ok, what do you all reckon happened to Alicia? Did she jump out of a window, like The Joker suggested? Did she get reconstructive/ cosmetic surgery to cover her scar (which, to be honest, wasn't as horrifying as the build-up promised)? Did she ever model again?
oh i'm sure she died somehow lol. he prolly killed her.
The Joker, infatuated with Vicki, would most likely have killed Alicia himself in another act of sick artistic expression

Cool. Well at least we're thinking along the same lines, even though you were about 4 months ahead of me. ;D
Cheers to you, ral!
I would like to think she killed herself because of the insanity of dealing with and being around a man she used to be close to thats now a psychopathic muderous clown haha.

Congrats Ral. When's the baby due?
Thanks johnny - first week in December

Oh no... didn't mean it like that (no deformities or anything else Oswald went through, just that their births are in the same month)! ;)

Dark Knight Detective meant to say, a December birth, just like Christ. :)
Besides, do we know Oswald was born in December? Personally, I don't think he was. It seems that his parents may have discarded him sometime after he was born - after all he was already big enough to eat a cat by Christmas.
Anyway, Christmas time, or there abouts will be a great time to have a new baby Ral!

That too.
Well Oswald must have been born in atleast in late November because the film opens with it snowing while he's being born, but I would say December.

I actually figured that Oswald was abandoned about a year after he was born, so he could even have been born in January or February. I got the impression that his parents had come to their joint decision after their child had displayed various worrying signs of sociopathy (such as the cat incident). Surely, that would only have occurred after a substantial period of time.
Besides, it would still have made sense for a 9 or 10-month year-old to be kept in a cot, especially one as twisted and repellent as Oswald.

Teah, this is certainly logical. Nice scenario, Johnny. 8)
I guess I could see that!

^ The Joker forcing Alicia to wear that porcelain mask and have her uncover her scarred face in front of Vicki reminds me of Black Mask's 1985 debut I read a month ago, where he forces his girlfriend Circe to wear a mask tainted with poisoned makeup that leaves her face completely disfigured. It was even sourced as a reference in the 'Comic Influences on Batman (1989)' feature: http://www.batman-online.com/features/2008/7/19/comic-influences-on-tim-burtons-batman-1989/3#sthash.Fnos6AoS.dpbs.
Of course, the difference is Joker wanted to make a twisted artistic statement. Whereas Roman Sionis started using this experimental and volatile makeup against his victims out of a misguided sense of vengeance, once his reputation as a cosmetics businessman was ruined because he recklessly gambled on the makeup to save his company. It backfired miserably, and left Bruce to take over, much to Roman's disgust.
