Apparently, this is going to be the final game of the Arkham series.  :(

I'm excited for the new game, but even though I'm glad we'll finally get to control the Batmobile, I don't like the way it looks. Reminds me too much of the Tumbler. I wish they kept the same design from the first two games.

That Batmobile was blown up during the comic End Game. Looks like they're respecting that continuity.

The game looks great.

Ah, well there you go! But I'm still disappointed that they chose that awful Tumbler look.

Anyway, Geoff Johns is writing the story. And there will be a villain who is actually called Arkham Knight. I wonder if this game will follow through any unfinished conclusions from Arkham City's side-missions i.e. Hush, Azrael? What are the odds that Azrael is the Arkham Knight? Or Anarky? Or...Joker?

Definitely tumbler influenced, but a little sleeker, and with bat emblems on the wheels.

The Knight being Hush would be pretty clever. When unmasked, its the Bruce Wayne face wearing Thomas Elliot. Would be a head trip. Going from masquerading as Bruce to masquerading as 'Batman' too. But who knows?

I am overjoyed at the playable Batmobile, though. The biggest change in the dynamic since 'Asylum'. Rocksteady have the freeflow and predator gameplay perfected already. They just have to copy and paste that into 'Knight' with a few differences here and there. They would've spent all their remaining time creating the driving component. Which I read where the batmobile alone has enough data to fill an Xbox 360. So they're not mucking around. So at the end of the day, it could seriously lay claim to the best Batman game.

The Joker is dead, yes. I still think they'll do something with the character. His likeness, anyway.

It wouldn't surprise me if he makes a cameo appearance during Scarecrow's hallucination poisoning.

I'm looking at the screenshots of the game right now. Although it looks like it will be the best game visually in terms of detail, some characters like Gordon, Riddler and Penguin don't resemble what they looked like in Arkham City. Actually, Gordon looks like his younger self from Arkham Origins.

By the way, doesn't anyone else agree that Riddler here looks like Charlie Sheen?

I'd like that. If there are more WB Montreal prequels, The Joker can live in those.

Gordon definitely looks younger and the others look a tad different. The game itself even has a different 'feel' just based on the screenshots, with the new suit and batmobile now in the mix. But that's fine. Let next gen consoles do their thing.

I'm hoping they have a rain mechanic in Knight.

I'm an easy mark for Rocksteady's Bat, so naturally I'm flattened. Oddly, though, I found myself wising Harris Yulin had read Thomas Wayne words. Not that the narrator was bad, not at all. Just an odd thought I had for some reason.

I will say that, despite the 'amored' bat look, and the leap in graphic capability, he still looks like the 'arkham' Batman I've come to love. The disconnect from that was something that nagged me about Origins 'armored' Bat a bit. But, yes, I agree with all above, there is a great lack in resemblance that further sells the 'next gen' capabilities. Pretty exciting.  Also pleased to see that they aren't holding back with basic roster information until the bitter end.

Just wanted to drop in a say for the record, before anyone else lays the first public claim. I think the Arkham Knight is Quincy Sharp, or some variation of Amadeus Arkham(Sharp believes himself his reincarnation, sent forth to purge the criminal element.) I figure with the Arkham branding, it's possible.

The spirit of Arkham thing did cross my mind. He is an an original character, as Rocksteady claim the Knight will be. Though it would remain to be seen how Quincy becomes this kung-fu badass.

Anyway, Gotham Knight has first dibs

Haha, indeed. The one deterrent I had was that he seemed rather oafish (in spirit) previously, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sharp is somehow how connected, if not the Knight himself. Maybe a benefactor of some sort. He seems so fanatical. And final entries in a trilogy do often try to come full circle. I'm sure, from what Rocksteady has said, that it won't be the reanimated corpse of Hugo Strange or Joker. They seem bound and determined to avoid Batman's dreaded 'the Curse of Three.' I guess we'll see.

Judging by that thing on Penguin's neck, he is now using an electrolarynx because of his constant smoking. He looks worse than ever.

True. Sharp was mind controlled by Strange in AC, so anything is possible.

And Penguin had that neck thingy during AC as well. Not a new addition.

So in other words, if Best Buy's verbiage is correct, we might be seeing a Red Dead Redemption ending. Already not too thrilled with this possibility. I will hold out to the end that Batman's not going to bite the big one. I think most agree (even Rocksteady) that the 'Dark Knight Rises' ending (yes Batman is dead) was pompous. Unless they really don't want Montreal to add to the mythology outside of prequels.

And I still don't like the Tumbler-inspired Batmobile.

Anyway, apart from the Batmobile sequences, the gameplay seems to be more or less the same so far, but with obviously superior graphics.

Disappointing, but delays seem to be the go these days.

Anyway, I have a theory about the Arkham Knight.

It's a manifestation of Bruce's mind. It has been confirmed the AK is working with Scarecrow, and has his own gang. I think they're really Scarecrow's goons. Perhaps Scarecrow has conjured a powerful, realistic hallucinogen which really brings out Batman's fears?

It's not a new concept. In AA Batman thought Gordon was killed, etc.

Could be a twist in the spirit of Arkham Origins' Black Mask.

That Sounds like a fantastic theory. All things considered I'd say that's highly probable. I can imagine a scene toward the end where they replay events in the game showing what Batman thought he saw, and what actually happened. Would be every cool considering that they already sort of touched on that possibility when Batman was tracking down Hush in AC.

I'd believe it, they've had those sorts of promos before, another one was the 'play as sinestro corps batman' promo with the Arkham City game which game with Green lantern blu ray. It was only an alternate skin. I'd expect at best it might be some alternate battle arenas.

New videos of the gameplay is up and running.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SU4AqZdtYU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SU4AqZdtYU)

The combat in the first video is very identical of the action from the last three games but with superior graphics.

I'm sure that the enemy tanks that the Batmobile destroys are drones, right?

What's curious about the reaction to the Batmobile that I've seen on YouTube is that a number of people are getting fed up with the militaristic influence on Batman i.e. the car and the armored suit.

Well, I'll be damned...the game now incorporates a switch character mode where you can play either Batman, Robin, Nightwing or Catwoman during Free Flow Combat. How do I know this? It's from the new trailer:

The story is excellent. I think people will be surprised how personal and psychological it is, cutting right to the core of Batman's personality and the effect it has on him and others. Big parts of the story focus on the fact Batman is so guarded to the point he lies to people or simply withholds information. Mainly to keep people on task and focused.

The game also manages to make you see how alone Batman feels, especially when people lash out at his decision making. Crime fighting is his burden to carry, on top of the historical emotional scars he carries, such as Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon's crippling.

And there's also another mental burden he has, which I won't spoil for people. But I really liked what they did with it. It's like a mix of Bat-Mite and the devil inside you always tempting you to lash out and lose control.

So indeed, this is one of the more personal and intimate stories you'll find - but the action and stakes are also big. I have to admit the battle mode Batmobile segments are repetitious and overdone, but apart from that - it's a fantastic game.

The full 100% ending is also something daring and bold which puts the Joker's death at AC to shame in terms of shock factor. I would've preferred this to what TDK Rises offered.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Erm Im not too sure what to say about it, obviously no spoilers, but personally I didn't think it was as good as the last three, especially not as good as City.  I felt like the character of Batman was different from the one we saw in the last three games; he's way too stubborn to the point I started getting pissed at him and it didn't make sense why he'd go alone at points.

I felt the story was very convoluted and was a little TOO big and out there, not to mention I found characters would almost be forgotten about for large chunks of time then randomly pop up again and you yourself totally forget they even existed in the game.

My last gripe is with the batmobile, I saw a review which put it perfectly: its fun initially to wade through the city in the batmobile, but after a while it gets repetitive and you'd much rather do it by air (glide), and it'd be quicker to do this too, so they spend so much of the game trying to justify having the car in it.
The tank spots were SO boring and seemed to go on for ages!

But what I did like was the visuals, and the inclusion of so many characters, not just the story but side missions too.  And yeah, likes been said, the endings are really cool.

I'd like to see more Arkham games, maybe set them in the past like Origins, but tbh I dont think they'll ever beat City, that game I think is gonna live on as THE Batman game for a long time

I just picked it up, I'll do my reviews on the go as I play. I know some of you whom are ahead of me will roll your eyes because you know what's to come but when I finish a game I rarely remember the beginning.

So far so good, having visuals on Oracle and Lucious Fox is cool although the bat suit, batmobile and bat wing all look Nolanized to me, and not in a good way. The bat wing looks more like a hovering drone in TDKR than an airplane (even Arkham Origins got it better), the batmobile also looks more like a tank than a car and of course the suit looks all bulky.

I haven't fought any villains yet, the only actual villains shown are the Joker and Ivy. Driving the batmobile is reasonably enjoyable but I can see it getting redundant. Thank god for the remote function so I don't have to worry where I parked it.

I would totally be screwed.

Well actually I'd be ok. It's Gotham that would be screwed lol. "Is it here? No. Is it here? No. What's that screaming? Hmmm, oh here it is!....no. Eek, are those gunshots? Dude! Where's my car?! Hmm...ooooo mushroom cloud prettyyyyy..."

I see what you guys mean by the batmobile complaints. The level where you have to guide Gordon to the click tower is annoying especially with only one weapon available during pursuit mode

Playing as Gordon was cool even for a short bit. Is this the first non-lego game he's playable?
The clocktower level was very enjoyable!

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced that the first chunk of story-driven content for Batman: Arkham Knight is now available for Season Pass owners, with Barbara Gordon's Batgirl stepping into the spotlight to rescue her father, Commissioner Jim Gordon, from the clutches of the Joker.

A story set prior to the events of Arkham Asylum, A Matter of Family sees Batgirl teaming up with Robin to take on Joker and Harley Quinn, utilising hacking abilities to take down enemies, manipulate the environment and solve puzzles. The DLC will be available separately next week on 21st July for non-Season Pass holders, priced $6.99/£5.79.

Next up, will be a new selection of skin packs for Season Pass holders in August, with the '1989 Movie Batmobile Pack' adding a new Batman skin as originally portrayed by Michael Keaton in the Tim Burton flick, alongside the iconic movie Batmobile. Two tracks inspired by 1992's Batman Returns will also be included.

Then there's the 'Bat-Family Skins Pack', also coming in August with six character skins cherry-picked from alternate timelines. It includes 1990s Catwoman as seen in The Long Halloween, One Year Later Robin, Arkham Origins Batman, Iconic Grey & Black Batman, 1970s Batman and the Original Arkham Nightwing.

Great news. Good they've given a spread of the Burtonverse with the suit from B89 and landscapes from BR.

I must say I'm enjoying these tag team fights with Catwoman and Nightwing. I also like how they tied the riddler and his trophies into the plot more.

I can't wait for the 89 upgrade though.

I think other movies will get the Burtonverse treatment we've seen recently.

I wonder how much of this game is incorporating the abandoned Batman Triumphant script?

Scarecrow gas causing Batman to halleucinate that the Joker is still alive. Also blaming himself for the tragedy of Barbara Gordon.

I found footage of Anton Furst's Batmobile in action for the new DLC. The developers combined the aesthetics of Burton's two films to create this race map. Looks quite bizarre, and very Tim Burton.

I'm not sure why you guys were slagging the batmobile parts, they're a blast!

I'm almost done the game (just took down the arkham knight, going after the scarecrow).

This is hard to discuss without spoiling but the identity of the AK wasn't a big shock. I don't think this game is as good as arkham city but enjoyed it quiet a bit. I like how the riddler missions and combat missions are more tied into the game itself.

Arkham Knight's ending hasn't been discussed here. Below is full of spoilers, so beware.

I like what Rocksteady did. It's big, bold and a first in the character's 75 year history. Batman is unmasked publicly as Bruce Wayne on television. He returns home to Wayne Manor with massive crowds and news crews outside the gates - and then the building explodes.

A flash-forward shows the criminals no longer fear the law due to Batman's presumed death. And his myth is lessened due to his identity now being known. But then we see two criminals freaking out after having a Bat demon hallucination, which then glides down to mete out justice.

I think it works on a variety of levels. It's both ambiguous also straightforward.

It's clear to me the 'Knightfall Protocol' refers to Bruce's modus operandi should his identity ever be compromised. He destroys all traces of his life as Wayne and becomes Batman full time. He effectively says as much to Catwoman at the end of the game, before his mask is taken off. He says Gotham will need something worse to defend her, but it'd mean he'd never see her or his allies again. He'd fully commit to his role - much like the Bruce Wayne: Murderer storyline.

I think that's what he did. He took Scarecrow's fear gas compound, tailored it to his own use - ala the Freeze technology in Arkham City, and regained the necessary fear level over the criminal element.

But if the gamer wanted to read it all another way, they could. Batman could've feasibly been killed in the Wayne Manor blast by a bitter criminal who now knew where he lived. And the reason why we don't see or hear Batman again post the explosion is because he's dead. And the hallucination is an isolated incident. Two drug heads seeing things.

The DLC which takes place after the main story is from the perspective of Nightwing, Robin and Catwoman. We don't get any idea if Batman sightings have continued. And I like that Rocksteady didn't outright confirm of deny. I like the ambiguity of the finale, and it also allows the Bat family to step up to the plate regardless of Batman's mortality.

I finally played Arkham Knight awhile ago. Yes, it took quite a number of years to get around to playing the game, but things in my life and other games got in the way. Better late than never.

I bought the Premium Edition that came with all the DLC. So with that in mind, I'd say AK is the best Batman game I've ever played. I understand the Batmobile action was criticised as being too repetitive, but I have to disagree. I enjoyed played the various missions involving the Batmobile, whether it was chasing after the Arkham Knight tanks or solving the riddles around the city, in addition to engaging in some boss battles. I thought the Batmobile action had lots of variety than it was credit for and enhanced the gameplay.

Despite being marketed as a conclusion Rocksteady's trilogy, the game has many references to events that happened in Arkham Origins, i.e. Anarky's belongings stored on display at the GCPD, Firefly's return and history being acknowledged, and Deathstroke appearing in a side mission as well as a boss battle. It was good to see the prequel wasn't forgotten even though it wasn't made by Rocksteady.

In addition to the Batmobile, the Dual Takedown feature was another good addition to the gameplay, it was fun to swap between playing Batman, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin. The Riddler challenges were a lot more difficult this time around, only a few moments drove me nuts i.e. the final Batmobile racing course where you had to drive around the tunnel and avoid getting hit by barricades and booby traps. That mission  was really testing your reaction time and concentration, it took me about a dozen times to complete it. The Arkham Knight tank boss battle was by far the hardest in this game, where you had to take out all of these drone tanks before you need to damage the core shields behind and in front of AK's tank while speeding and dodging all of his homing missiles. That too took me a while to get through, thankfully the Deathstroke tank boss battle during one of those side missions was a far easier version of that experience, no matter how anticlimactic it may have been.

In terms of story, I really enjoyed how the Riddler doubles down on his arrogance and narcissism throughout the game. In Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, he'd panic whenever Batman gets closer to solving all of his riddles, but none of those previous failures have humbled him one bit. Instead, there is a moment where he taunts Batman by saying "he doesn't know how to fail properly", despite you've solved about 95% of all the riddles. It's great comic relief, and it demonstrates how the Riddler is too far gone and full of hubris.

I thought Batman's Joker hallucinations and his moments of psychosis were a fantastic plot point throughout the game, it goes to show the antidote he took at the end of Arkham City didn't  completely cure him of any side effects. I thought the final boss in this game was a brilliant example of game design; instead of playing against the Scarecrow (who was a great villain this in game, by the way) Batman had overcome his inner psychological demons for good and defeat the Joker in the only way how - by forgetting him and removing him out of his mind. And to do it despite the Scarecrow had exposed Batman's true identity to the entire world and infected him with fear toxin was a perfect way to illustrate Batman's willpower.

I'm mostly fine with the ambiguous ending with the Knightmare Protocol (but come on, we know deep down they faked their deaths), although I have to agree with the criticism over Jason Todd as Arkham Knight. I thought it was kind of a letdown for a twist. You saw it coming every time Batman hallucinates Joker torturing Jason, but even more so that the Red Hood DLC Story Pack shows there is no real conclusion for that character. Yeah, it's nice we get these nods to A Death in the Family and Under the Hood, but now you have this deadly antihero vigilante running around post-Arkham Knight. That part of the story is unfinished, for my taste. Because of this, I wish the new Gotham Knights game was the sequel to Arkham Knight, but have Red Hood as the villain.

I could compare the positives and negatives within the story, but in terms of gameplay and the value it cost the buy the Premium Edition, it's the best Batman game I've played. But in terms of experience, nothing will match the thrills of playing Asylum, City and even Origins for the first time.

I forgot to add: I do have one little bit of criticism for the Batmobile gameplay. It really stretches your suspension of disbelief that the carnage was kept to an extreme minimum.

The Batmobile can run over and crush cars at full speed and blow up vehicles driven by Arkham Knight's goons with homing missiles, and yet, Batman somehow manages to not kill anyone. The game goes to ridiculous lengths to justify the possibility of Batman avoiding indirect kills by having the Batmobile electrocute enemies and send them flying before they're only centimeters away from getting bulldozed over. The Batmobile combatting drones was another workaround to avoid having Batman kill people, because if there are human conductors driving those tanks, then you have no choice but to make Batman abandon his moral code completely.

Nevertheless, Arkham Knight is still a great game.

I watched this video about Kevin Conroy recalling how Arkham Knight took two years to record 157,000 lines of dialogue, and how he got in trouble by WB for accidentally revealing Rocksteady's third Batman game. I read in the comments under this video saying this was recorded in 2018.

https://youtu.be/9NXV9hOp0PM

Yet another example of how sh*tty WB is. As Conroy alluded to, if they had bothered to tell him they were making Arkham Origins, he would've avoided answering any questions that would've leaked Arkham Knight. To accuse him of breaching a confidentiality agreement on purpose when they didn't even communicate everything to him in the first place is just typical poor behaviour on their part. Avoiding accountability as always.

Thankfully, Conroy managed to sort this out and continued going to conventions without hassle for the last remaining years of his life.
