This is just the best Batman news. It's been a dream of so many for so long. It's been a gap in the Batman fan's collection and heart. And it's going to be officially filled. I'll be pre-ordering this ASAP.

Now, we wait for release dates and special features.

But wow!

According to Burt Ward no commentaries have been recorded yet! So they still have a ways to go yet then.

Commentaries from West & Ward, as well as Newmar and any other surviving cast members, are A MUST!

is anyone else even alive besides those three? i know john astin is but i can't think of anyone else. i guess that's how it goes with a nearly 50 year old show.  :( :( :( :(

Is this likely for a summer or christmas release? And how much do you think it will cost if it's a complete series?

I really hope they enhance the picture quality just like the stunning 1966 movie when it hit Blu Ray. Never mind the extras. Those of you familar with British tv screenings of the show in recent years will probably remember how dirty and scratched the images were. A restoration is a must.

I don't know $230, $250. They know the insane demand for this thing, so it could be upwards from there.

Affordability is the first piece of the puzzle for the feasability of a home video release. The fact that it's getting released all together instead of by season is concerning... but to make this affordable enough for people to buy it, I would suspect no more than $200, at the highest.

There are a lot of pie slices to dole out, unless the arrangements were made elsewhere (which is likely. Every compnay making a big chunk from each set sold would make the price unwieldy). It's possible that Warner is getting the bigger chunk and let Fox have some other stuff, or vice versa. We won't know yet, but I'm sure the price won't be insane. Anything above 200 would be insane.

@Cobblepot4Mayor I'm not too worried about this, because ITV4 were using good quality versions of the show, for it's run in syndication just last year.

They were scan and pan HD broadcasts.

Just judging from how the show looks on TV around here in California, there are no HD scans yet  ;D

No Blu-ray release would be unlikely, but also very maddening, since like anything else back then, Batman was shot on film, meaning instantly that if they have access to the prints (which I'm sure Fox has them all), HD is a full go.

I'm guessing they would include the movie in the collection as well?

As we know, it received Blu-ray treatment and looks amazing.

Having just recieved the Hot Toys Keaton Batmobile this Christmas morning for a whopping 600 smackers (translation of which is in British pounds guys) charging 200 for a mere dvd (and one that's been hotly demanded for decades) is insane and utterly greed laden. Let's be sensible here Warners.

It may include Adam West and Burt Ward's screen tests against two other actors who were up for the job. I saw this on a Bio channel documentary about the making of the series. If anybody thinks Adam West was the wrong choice to play Batman kindly go and watch this audition comparison. He floors the other guy as does Ward.

Although the Batman movie Blu Ray had a nice title menu I much prefer it's original dvd release version which has crazy comic book colours and sound effects balloons adorning each menu. It'd be nice to do something like those again for this release.

I would like to know how they finally sorted out all these rights problems to get this thing out at last.

Does anybody here remember a documentary made back in the nineties called "Batmania From Comics to Screen", made it appears by a group of fans. It has shoddy footage and music but it tells the story of the Batman tv show quite brilliantly, the cultural impact of the comics and merchandise and even includes the Batmania hype of 1989. I've looked EVERYWHERE on the net but nobody seems to remember it. I have the old VHS. It would make a nice extra. But it appears to have numerous different versions with alternate footage and narration. There is a very funny 1980's convention appearance by Adam West in full Bat costume "I'll just stand here for a few moments and let you admire my INCREDIBLE crime fighting physique!" lol

Great news about the DVDs. I wonder if the arrangement between WB and Fox was precipitated by the latter securing the rights to produce the new Gotham series.

Those screen tests are great. They offer a snapshot of what the show might have been like had it adopted a more serious tone.

Are you thinking of the 1989 documentary Holy Batmania?

If so, that would definitely make a great DVD extra.

I'm hoping every single thing is included on the set. For me the 60s show, Burton and BTAS are where its at. As far as I am concerned, they're all lightning in a bottle. Which believe me, is very hard to capture.

Though I know for a fact the first season is the best (and that the other two are sometimes cringeworthy), I still HAVE to own the whole thing. Most of the 2nd/3rd season episodes I haven't seen since I was a kid, and besides, it's MORE live-action Batman!!

Yep. There's no way I'm passing up the whole series.
