Batman (1989) / Prince and Batman 89

Personally I love Prince's soundtrack.

I have a question though, were he and Elfman working together during the scoring/song writing process?

Misc. Burton / Joel McNeely recordings
Wed, 5 Mar 2008, 09:09
I just found my Batman Trilogy CD by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra yesterday during a visit to my parents house (to my suprise my little sister was listening to it - i must be a good influence on her!)

I put it on in the car while driving home and I remebered how i prefered the Batman Returns recordings on this CD to the originals.  Also the Batman 89 recordings are alot different too - the tempo is slightly slower with more emphasis on the percussion giving it a more solomn feel.

The recordings were made in Glasgow, Scotland between Sept 95 and Feb 97.

Any other opinions on this CD?

Movies / Sweeney Todd
Wed, 30 Jan 2008, 10:57
Anyone see Sweeney Todd yet? I just watched it today and thought it was great.

I have to say at first I wasn't too impressed with Depp's voice, but 10 mins in and I was over it.  I had never seen the musical or heard the songs before, so this was all fresh to me.

It's great to see Burton playing out his love of old horror movies, especially Hammer horror.

Misc. Burton / 3 villians in 1 movie
Sun, 27 Jan 2008, 01:46
I'm just watching Mars Attacks!

Had Annette Benning gotten the role of Catwoman, Mars Attacks would have starred all 3 villians in the one movie.

Really obvious and pointess threads?

Just post them here.

Batman Returns (1992) / returns redux?
Fri, 18 Jan 2008, 10:08
I'm still not sure what redux means...

what shots, if any from Batman Returns would you do differently given the chance? Why do you think it would work better? Or do you think Burton did it fine his way?

Batman (1989) / 89 redux?
Fri, 18 Jan 2008, 10:07
I'm not sure what redux means but anyway...
I love batman89, it is very stylistic and has some iconic shots, so i'm not bashing one single frame of it but....

what shots, if any from Batman89 would you do differently given the chance? Why do you think it would work better? Or do you think Burton did it fine his way?

I will start.
After Batman escapes from Axis' rooftop, we see Napier's cards float to the surface and the Joker's hand emerge.

Me: I would have filmed Napier bursting up out of the surface gasping for air and crawling to the water's edge exhausted (like in the Killing Joke), but with the Joker's face and most of his body obscured the whole time.

Burton: I think Tim did it better. Having the hand just emerge gives the Joker a more unhuman essence and makes him more terrifying. We get the point. Plus it looks cooler.

We all know about the throw aways for Batman 89 by Herb Ritts thanks to Reevz and Shadowbat, but what about the photoshoot for Batman Returns?

Take this poster (click to view)

now look at these photos of stunt double Dave Lea (click to view)

Is the poster really Dave with the eyes doctored?  I always noticed that Keaton's mouth looked a little different in the poster.

(btw, the site now displays the code for thumbnail links for pictures like above - just like photobucket)

Wed, 12 Dec 2007, 14:40
I have had an email from someone who wants to make a custom Joker car, but has had no success in getting good detailed photos.

I managed to get a Joker logo (alot bigger than this preview below - it will be on the main site) for him - can anyone else help?

Batman (1989) / BATMAN 1989 - Personal Reviews
Sat, 20 Oct 2007, 12:23
What are your feelings towards Batman 89 now?  Are they the same as they were in 1989? Has it stood the test of time?
