Title: BvS IMAX remaster is coming soon
Post by: The Laughing Fish on Mon, 14 Dec 2020, 11:36
Zack Snyder has revealed he is working to restore the original IMAX aspect ratio for BvS.

I heard it might be released on HBO Max before ZSJL comes out, and it may even be available on home video at some point.

Not gonna lie, I never saw a film in IMAX, but I'm more than happy to check this out. Fans of this film love to pause on frames and pick out the details in the background, and you can bet they'll analyse the IMAX frames to death. Here is a comparison between a standard aspect ratio for theatrical releases and the IMAX screens. No doubt, the longer shots on the right make the Knightmare image a lot more epic.

I don't need a remastered BVS in IMAX.

But I won't say no to it either, sign me up.

I love it when home video releases preserve the IMAX experience. Still waiting on the IMAX release of M:I Ghost Protocol in any format.

Here is the first twenty-seven seconds of the Knightmare scene in the IMAX aspect ratio, as seen on Snyder's Vero account.

Snyder says the remastering job is finished off now. To be blunt, I'm looking forward to this more as an ancillary to ZSJL than anything else. Looks very interesting. As my favorite of Snyder's DC movies, seeing literally more of it can't possibly be a bad thing in my book.

Very interested in this.

Found this old Reddit post talking about possible other scenes: https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/comments/ag06uk/bvs_deleted_scenes_not_in_bvs_ue/

Superman hearing all the cries for help as Batman rushes to save Martha is something I'm hoping gets included.

For those who are subscribed to HBO Max, the IMAX remastered version of BvS will be available on the same day as ZSJL comes out. The 4k HD Blu-Ray will come out on March 23rd.

They should release it sooner. Wanted to watch it before Justice League, not on the same day due to their runtimes.

I'm not finding this on HBO Max. The regular widescreen version is up there. But I flipped ahead to the Knightmare sequence and it's also in widescreen.

Am I doing something wrong or what?

HBO max seems to be having issues. Itunes and movies anywhere have the new version, if you have it on any of those formats.

Okay, think I figured it out.

Whatever's going on with HBO Max is whatever. But I tried watching BVS through iTunes earlier today. Same thing. It was showing the old version. But then after reading your post, I had an idea. I deleted the existing BVS file out of my iTunes library and downloaded a new one.

Boom, there's your IMAX remastered BVS. Not every single scene, obviously. But the obvious scenes.

So far, Knightmare is the big standout for me. The IMAX framing shows so much more and you get a much better sense of Batman's peril when the gunfight breaks out. Helicopters, tens of thousands of Parademons, etc. He had no chance whatsoever of escape.

Anyway, thx for the tip! You definitely got this solved for me faster than I would've on my own.

Gave the IMAX release a look and BvS really is the best Snyder film, and you can see why the establishment entertainment media and studio freaked out. Either intentional or accidental, it called out the vicious cycle of false flags enacted on countries by the deep state and fake news on CNN. It had intelligent commentary about the corruption of the real world and how it is packaged for the masses, which was mysteriously watered down in the theatrical release. It's a movie that really does reflect the times, and was ahead of its time.
