QuoteWarner Bros. and Netherrealm (the studio that created the awesome 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot) have announced today that they are currently working on a DC Universe fighting game, likely based on the popular Mortal Kombat fighting engine.
Details on the new game are scant, given that E3 is just around the corner. However, we do know that Batman, Superman, The Flash, Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman will be playable characters, and that it will share the decidedly darker tone of the MK reboot.
While the rest of the cast is currently a mystery, you can probably make some educated guesses on who will be present. And if you can't, then just stayed tuned because we're betting Warner Bros will slowly leak each playable character (drip fed, once a week) up to the release.
"With Injustice: Gods Among Us, we are creating an all-new franchise with incredible battles set in the DC Comics Universe," said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "NetherRealm Studios is the extremely talented team behind the latest Mortal Kombat hit and it is developing a game unlike any other in the fighting genre."

Very cool!
Are you able to post this as a news item? I'm away from my PC for the rest of the day :-/
Took me a while to figure how to do it.
Looks good to me! Thanks for that.
one thing i wonder; where is the green lantern?!?!?!

playable Nighwing!
This game looks dark, the flash wont be portrayed as the goofy version.
A funny thought - Batman's relationship with MK is older than 2009's MK vs. DC, it dates back to 1995 and that ill-conceived game by Probe/Acclaim which tried to mix MK fighting mechanics with platforming: Batman Forever ("using the grappling hook is like entering a cheat code").
Also, this isn't the first DCU fighting game, in 1995 there was Justice League: Task Force (the SNES version, different than MD, was developed by none other than Blizzard). However, it promises to be the first good one. If there's one character that hasn't been very lucky with games and there's hardly a title worth playing, even for retro fans, it's Superman.
SilentEnigma, you should write a feature highlighting some of the more obscure, forgotten Batman games. I reckon you know more about the subject than anyone else on the site, and it could make for a really interesting article.
Maybe something can be worked out :)

It's a tough act to beat Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Mortal Kombat has other things going for it like the fatalities and a fun martial arts movie vibe, but with each passing day this promises to be the Arkham equivalent of 2D fighters.
generally bad games are ones which have been rushed whereas good ones are ones which have been heavily developed; this one has been in the works for a long time. I played a demo and it was outstanding
Tagline could be: "You'll believe Aquaman can be a badass"

I'm really surprised they didn't go with Aquaman's hook-hand look. It has more of a gritty Mortal Kombat vibe than his traditional outfit, and they could have created an interesting moveset around it.

It's great to see Hawkgirl in the game. I hope it's the Shayera Hol version, since she's my favourite female superhero.

In all honesty I have paid this game no attention and know little about it. Now that I have, I'm interested.
Is this going to be a strictly online only type thing?
No. Think Mortal Kombat (2011) for PS3/360.
Okey dokey. I'll wait for some reviews to trickle out first.

This game looks like its trying to cash in on Arkham City's popularity too...which is a good thing. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people think that Batman's default skin in Injustice looks ugly anyway, and would prefer to play the AC version, even though the designs aren't totally accurate to ones shown in AC.

It's small preview, but Batman's AC skin looks better than the default one I reckon. :)
Agreed. I don't hate the default, looks like a variation of Bale's (with some Batman Live), but Arkham's is better. The Batmobile looks a little like Child of Dreams, doesn't it?
Read up to #12 of this. I wish it was also made into a "movie"/cutscene using the game's graphics engine, nice story.
The Arkham skins are excellent. Would be fun and deserving if they managed to get a Lego Batman skin in the game as well.
Don't know, when it comes to character design, independent of the game's quality, the MKvsDC Joker is more to my liking.

So...is anyone playing this game?

I got a copy today - will give it a play tomorrow.
So, I have been playing the game. And...I love it!
Engaing story and the combat is fun. Definitely recommend it. Love that Joker!
I am. Very fun storyline, I love what they did with the characters and interactions. I'm brutal at online though.
I loved how they handled Superman. The parallel universe one becoming the God-ruler that Batman always fears. And the other Superman commiting himself to good, though not ruling out that dark side could come out in him as well one day. He's foreboding and hopeful at the same time. And how they withheld the Superman playability, letting all that power out til last. Otherwise the story could've been a lot shorter. Good writing.
I've been playing the iOS version. It's actually pretty fun. There is no story, but it's a good game to pass the time with

I found it to just a matter of tapping the screen repeatedly. Bored me after a short while.
Now the Ultimate Edition, containing ALL the DLC, is going to be released on all platforms except XBox One and Wii U. I'll be looking to pick this game up next month, though it makes me wonder whether or not I should wait for Arkham Origins a little longer since I don't want to miss out on the DLC. :-X
I bought the Ultimate Edition on PC and have been playing it a lot for a week now.
It's a good fighting game, if slightly repetitive once you got used to the combos and hitting opponents from one place to another.
The story reminds me in certain ways like The Flashpoint Paradox and Crisis on Two Earths; Superman in charge of a One World dictatorship with the majority of the heroes agreeing to join his side out of fear, and Batman is working with Lex Luthor to lead a team of insurgents against the regime.
Favourite characters to play are Green Arrow, Nightwing, Deathstroke and Joker - very easy to do combos with those four. I must admit that Batman and Superman are a little disappointing to play since their attacks are dull compared to those four.
Anyone else played the STAR Labs missions? I've got the Lobo missions where he flies into outer space and must collect dolphins to keep his oxygen up. ??? The developers must have been on drugs when they conceived that idea.
The star labs were fun, like a bunch of mini games although some were pretty tough.
I wonder if we'll get a sequel game at some point?
They put Pfeiffer in the mobile version. Where's Keaton?
http://youtu.be/wAzxPbQ9EBU
First Keaton's Batman appears in one of the 75th anniversary shorts, and now Pfeiffer's Catwoman is playable in Injustice. What a week for fans of Burton's Batman!

Could this signify an end to WB's ongoing reluctance to acknowledge the Burton Batman films? Will the Burtonverse henceforth be treated as a valid part of the DC Multiverse? Will the upcoming 25th anniversary DVD have some new special features instead of being simply another repackaged version of the old DVD release?
Quote from: Furstmobile on Wed, 23 Apr 2014, 02:14Where's Keaton?
Perhaps they're limiting themselves to one fighter per interpretation and they thought Pfeiffer's Catwoman would be the best one to represent the Burtonverse.
The BR Catwoman as a playable character? Way cool. About time this stuff happened.

I think the Burton stuff
is coming back in vogue. The realism days are coming to an end, especially with Snyder taking over and the shared Superman/Batman universe. And the Arkhamverse has made its mark, don't worry about that.
Since Batman v Superman is fast approaching, you can now get the movie skins for the mobile game.
