Yeah, I love they choose locations which look interesting. If they want to keep it real and grounded, the real world (especially Britain which seem convenient for filming) if full of ornate architecture, neoclassical, baroque, gothic revival etc. that could pose as the Gotham City some of us have in our heads, not just boring square structures and glass facades. In Avengers: Infinity War there's a scene shot in Edinburgh which looks more Gotham than half of TDK.

Batman Forever (1995) / Re: Chicks dig the car

I noticed this line has gotten into some scrutiny lately, and I kind of feel like it's the new batnipples. I've been watching a lot of retrospective and reviews of Forever and it seems like this line is always brought up in an "I can't believe they did that tone". I never really had any issue with this line and it seems like it was quite memorable (an entire Batmobile forum titled after it) but it seems to not have aged well or atleast is starting not too.

Never had a problem with "Chicks dig the car". It's Batman being dry.

An earlier scene, Batman standing among the crowd having a chat with a psychiatrist about whether a man dressing as a six-foot Bat needs a visit or if bats are "flying rodents" was a bit more grating - Batman sticks to the shadows, he's not supposed to have small talk about inconsequential things in a public place, in full regalia, unless it's Gordon himself.

Or I might be wrong, but never liked this scene.

Good call.

I hadn't actually noticed this, but when you lay the shots out like that the two scenes do strongly resemble one another. Perhaps it was a deliberate homage?

I watched S01 a while ago. When I noticed I searched interviews, fan discussions (in reddit etc), including the Cobra Kai discussion in this forum, didn't find anyone mentioning anything so I left it at that, no point in me appearing even more crazy. There's no official word on this being a homage but, have to admit, there is a similarity there (even watching the videos side by side).

Maybe it's only me, but the ending of season 1 reminded me a bit of the Joker reveal from Batman.

Quote from: The Joker on Fri,  4 Sep  2020, 20:04There appears to be a theme of the 3 Joker's having made a tragic impact on the lives of the 3 protagonists (Batman, Jason, Babs). The Clown Joker with Jason. The Comedian Joker with Batgirl, and if I were to surmise, there's something linking The Criminal Joker with Batman. Although exactly what between batman and the Criminal Joker remains to be seen right now.
I don't have access to special inside spoiler info or anything. But if I were a betting man, I'd say that the criminal Joker will be revealed as (1) Jack Napier and (2) the killer of Thomas and Martha.

The B89 angle there is obvious.

But Fabok drew Batman in a very Bob Ringwood uniform and a very Anton Furst Batmobile. Are the uniform and Batmobile meant to visually foreshadow something? Hmm.

Glad someone mentioned it. Batman's suit is like a mix of comics and Bob Ringwood. Also, Monarch Theatre makes an appearance, plus the architecture of some building facades looks inspired by Anton Furst - the Aquarium with those Flugelheim-like windows.

This comic feels like a Joker tribute/Best Of with obvious references to the past (B'89, Killing Joke, Death in the Family, Laughing Fish, Batman #1), The Criminal Joker being Jack Napier is not unlikely.

Yes, the art is fantastic and looks like a lot of thought and work went into almost every panel. Like said above, this feels like they try to do a prestige title. I don't know if it is, but I know that the first time I browsed through its pages, I just admired the craftsmanship without reading the balloons.

Samuel Kim (also mentioned in this thread and this) is also one of the best at this.

This is an arrangement of the Elfman and Zimmer themes.

A newer, longer arrangement of The Batman theme with the Imperial March, including Duel of the Fates.

Also, AtinPiano, he's done very good piano versions for many well known themes, plus piano versions of Samuel Kim's arrangements. This is a piano arrangement of The Batman's trailer music - he also incorporates Elfman's theme.

And posting this just because this is how I first heard his work, and must have listened to it a thousand times.

Gotta to love what some talented fans do, without any kind of restrictions.

Man, we got Keaton and Affleck coming back, and then Robert Pattinson's Batman is coming out after.

What a great day to be a Batman fan. I mean, damn.

What I also think, is that Affleck's role will provide a TRUE AND HEARTFELT FINALE for his incarnation in a way that surpasses Bale. If they have a tragic, bittersweet type conclusion it's very hard to compete with that, as opposed to living happily ever after. Imagine if Batfleck gets closure with alternate reality Thomas, says goodbye to Ezra and others, and gets closed off from the multiverse forever as his own seperate timeline. I'm hoping for that - because it's emotional also doesn't rule out HBO Max shows with him.

I do think we're in a cinematic golden age right now.

Nothing to add, quoting for agreeing, as happy and excited as anyone with this. Plus those great teaser/trailers for JL and The Batman.

I don't think this art necessarily reflects exactly what the final suit will look like, but it does give us an idea of the sort of designs they're contemplating. I expect the finished suit will be reasonably close to this – basically an improved version of the 1989 costume, perhaps incorporating elements (specifically the cowl) of the Returns suit.

Pretty much what I thought by seeing this concept art, an improved/updated version of Keaton's classic look from 89/BR.

Yeah. Fingers crossed, for everything.

I've been trying to imagine if a film adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns had been released at the same time as the book, or immediately afterwards, then who would have starred in it? Which actors would have been not only right for the roles, but also the appropriate age at the time? Here's the cast I came up with. The pictures I've chosen for each actor are all taken from films or TV episodes released in 1986 to show what they looked like around the time TDKR was published. I'll note the title of each film/TV show next to each actor's name along with their age in 1986.

This is excellent. The juxtaposition of comic art to actors pics is spot on - especially Bronson, Cushing, Hamilton, Saxon. As much as Nicholson IS the Joker, maybe for a TDKR movie made in 1986, David Bowie too.

Selina.. Ursula Andress?
