Title: "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"
Post by: Seantastic on Sun, 17 Apr 2011, 21:03
Lets be honest, maybe not alot of people like the film, but damn, the soundtrack was one of the best ever assembled.  This song, the main theme for the film is great, everyone has to love this bad boy, awesome song by an awesome band.

Lets all discuss the greatness of this song.  Also, if anyone ha the red vinyl of it, would they maybe be able to post pics, I'm very close to buying it, so yea, if anyone could that would be very much appeciated.

More importantly, it's an awesome Batman song.

It captures the exciting dark energy, tortured existence and mystery perfectly.

I'm not the biggest fan of U2.  I much prefer Prince.  However, "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" is not only the best thing U2 have done IMHO, it's also the best Batman song and one of the best soundtrack songs of the 1990s.  I agree with Seantastic that this was a great soundtrack.

Oh, thats awesome Dark Knight, seriously appreciated, plus its great to see others agree about the greatness of the song and soundtrack as a whole, now if only people would come around to agreeing that the film is just as amazing ::)

The hype around BF was pretty phenomenal and U2's song was a big part of that for me.

Kiss from a Rose was a re-release (at least in the UK anyway) by the time BF came out. Although it did well in the charts, it didn't get me all that excited for BF.

KFAR is brilliant. It reflects the soulful aspect of Bruce Wayne.

Man, watching these videos, as well as the few for B&R, just makes me wonder why they don't do it now, I'd love if this sort of thing started again with the next Batman franchise.  There's nothing wrong with a bit of publicity, plus both films produced great soundtracks.

I like the fact that the new films don't have tie-in soundtracks. The reality is that most soundtracks have little to do with the actual movies that they are tied into, except for the fact that the studio forces audio snippets into the movie.

Phantom Stranger, agreed.

"Hold Me..." is classic. I also have a soft spot for "Bad Days" by the Flaming Lips, IMO it works well in the scene where we are introduced to Nygma's miserable apartment, and it's a nice song. The rest of the songs in Batman Forever, I have little interest for. This "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal has more cheese than a huge slice of Feta.

EDIT on 2012/08/15:
My post from more than a year ago is embarassing, LOL. This rudeness was uncalled for... was it necessary to resurrect this thread? ;)

Still, there's a reason comments were disabled for the vid. I know I'm not alone in this :D

Everything about BF is fun including the music. I love Nolan's take but I really miss the fun factor.

Your telling me, a simply superb song that was everywhere back in 95...until Kiss from a Rose came along that is!  ;D My dad (who recently passed away) was as much a Batman fan as myself. Sadly the new Batman is the first he never got to see. He played guitar and I remember he very cooly learned to play this excellent track when I was a kid. The song has a fantastic intro.

Always remember seeing the video on Top of the Pops. It was the first time I saw footage from the (then upcoming) new Batman movie I'd waited 3 years for and it certainly built up the excitement in bucket loads. A underrated one if you ask me. The animation came close to being cooler than Bruce Timm's stuff.

Kinda miss the Batman films having a theme song soundtrack. Nolan's end credits get a lil dull without one lol Having said that though we would possible get a godawful "X Factor" pop group of today than the cooler and offbeat artists of Prince, U2 and Siouxsie and the Banshees contributing. Remember what the X-Men fans got on "First Class"? It was....shudder....Take That!!!!

Mhmm. I like watching movies because I like to enjoy myself. Switch off from reality for two and a bit hours. I like to have fun, but things can compromise that bubble, and that happens too often for my liking in the Schumacherverse. For me, adventurous camp done right belongs to Adam West and the 60s show.

Agreed. Still, one thing Schumacher brought to the proceedings were those kinetic action sequences. Batman getting dragged around by Two Face's helicopter, leaping off buildings, crashing through Mr. Freeze's windshield, all that stuff. Things like that are just another day at the office for Batman but, much as I love his movies, Burton didn't really bring that to life for me. And it's not like it was Schumacher's trademark either but he at least threw a few of those bits into his films.

I have fond memories of BF. The fact that the Seal video was in constant rotation on MTV, Val Kilmer was on Jay Leno, and other stuff make it really feel like Batman was everywhere... and the mainstream was taking notice. Of course, maybe that's nostalgia talking because, hey, that was a cool summer in general. So there you go.

Still haven't decided if the old films are indeed more fun, or it's simply that the world was a much simpler place when they came out (without adult responsibilities etc). At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how BF is as a film, it's the memories it carries with it.

Graduate high school in 1995.  The BF soundtrack was...well, the *soundtrack* of my post-graduation summer.  I brought a beautiful date (a friend, but a gorgeous woman none the less) to see BF, and I was hooked on the music.  You guys have already made the list.  Hold Me, Thrill Me...Bad Days...Smash It Up...There is a Light That Shines...Kiss From a Rose.

I may put it on tonight.  :)

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - I remember hearing the track for the first time on the radio. I knew BBC Radio 1 would have the first airplay (this was before the internet kids) so I faked a sickie from college to tape it on the radio!

I bought the CD, cassette and limited red vinyl. I even have the promo poster rolled up here somewhere in this room!

Clarity is possible. At least when it comes to this, I have no hesitation in saying the older movies are more fun because there's nothing really fun about the Nolan trilogy. He sucked all the fun from all things Batman. Let's face it, there's a certain fun factor about Batman. The costume, the playboy thing, the cool cars, the house, the gadgets, the superhero escapades. Love or hate what Schumacher did, he at least understood what he was up to in making Batman films.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'll take the flaws and weaknesses of Schumacher's movies over the flaws and weaknesses of Nolan's.

I've got to admit, reading your posts about the positives of the Schumacherverse have become infectious.

This weekend I will endeavour to watch them both on Blu-ray and pay closer attention.

Very cool.

At some point, I would recommend reading http://www.batman-online.com/features/2012/7/26/in-defense-of-the-neon-knight-where-schumachers-batman-succeeded by Doc Lathrop Brown himself. If I'm thinking of the right guy, he and I had whatever passes as the online equivalent of a fist fight over at The Other Forum when he advanced a defense of Schumacher's movies. I didn't even want to give his opinions any input but, man oh man, I think he's a lot closer to the mark than I was back in those days. Brown basically says there's a difference between "humor" and "camp". To my shame, I never made that acknowledgement in watching these movies. Humor makes you smile while camp is a mode of performance. Bray could probably offer a better breakdown of the two than I could though.

To end this blabber fest, I find that the four movies actually work very well if I think of the Burton films as their own thing, the conclusion of which is Batman Returns. Schumacher's films are a continuation of Burton's Batman... but Burton's Batman doesn't continue on into the Schumacherverse... if that makes any sense at all. A parallel universe or something.
