Batman Returns (1992) / Masquerade Ball
Sat, 30 Jan 2010, 10:01
I love the masquerade ball sequence in Batman Returns. Great concept.

Bruce turns up to the event simply in a tuxedo ? the image the public is accustomed to but rarely sees.

This is his mask and other half. The ball is all about presenting your other side. People think Bruce didn?t go to any effort, but we know better. The party goers don?t get the irony of it all.

The irony is, Bruce must dress up as a bat to be his true self, whereas everybody else in the room minus Selina get around in regular clothing to be their true self.

Bruce and Selina literally live the fantasy world out for real, and treat it as such, whereas the rest are merely playing dress up.

The most serious cosplay addicts are walking among them, but they are oblivious and most likely looking down upon them for not "getting into the spirit".

The Dark Knight (2008) / TDK Expanded Scenes.
Sat, 30 Jan 2010, 02:59
This thread is specifically for TDK, the events that we don?t see and imagining what went down in them. Some of the following scenes are detailed in the novelisation:

The Joker stealing a large amount of ammonium nitrate from the Gotham Docks ? storing it in Gotham Hospital and on the Ferries at some stage.

Eluding a 3 week surveillance ordered by Maroni and killing the investigator by poisoning his coffee.

Then there's minor things like The Joker handing an old woman a $100 bill before being picked up for the bank raid, the armed robbery and double homicide, escaping the hospital in the school bus and so on.

I'll start this off - How does anybody go about storing insane ammounts of ammonium nitrate, in Gotham Hospital especially, without anybody knowing?

Over at this page possible Batman 3 plot details are given.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/BrentSprecher/news/?a=14222

Apparently they have a basic plot outlined.

The article states:

Quote1. The plot should be outlined in time for the screenwriting to begin in February.

2. The Riddler is the primary villain and he figures out Batman's identity.

3. Arkham Asylum will figure prominently in the story.

4. Several classic villains will cameo, including the Penguin and Mr. Freeze (though as Dr. Fries, not as the supervillain).

5. Barbara Gordon will have a featured role.

6. Commissioner Gordon will mention Metropolis and possibly Lex Luthor.

7. Dick Grayson may be in the movie (though probably not as Robin).

This information is not verified, but we can still discuss our thoughts about this.

Comic Film & TV / Doctor Who

The End of Time Part One was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but entertaining nonetheless. It was really just a set-up, and I expect Part Two to bring down the house. Can't wait to see the regeneration sequence and Matt Smith - who I think is going to be outstanding.

Arkhamverse Video Games / Arkham City
Sun, 13 Dec 2009, 09:44
Well, Arkham Asylum 2 has been announced.

Here is the official site in a bare bones state:
http://www.arkhamhasmoved.com/

A teaser trailer has also been released, which you can view here:

Gotham is out of control with inmates. In quick shots, a sign for The Penguin's Iceberg Lounge is shown. There is a reference to Black Mask - a sign that says "Sionis". On the website, there is a picture of Two Face as Uncle Sam. So expect to see these guys in the game.

Interestingly, The Joker looks sick and older - coughing and so on. His hair is receding. He's also hooked up to a medical machine. I'm putting this down to the after effects of his Titan dose. And he looks a lot more like Ledger's Joker, too. And Harley is there, still wearing the same uniform from the first game.

I predict we are going to see some form of turf war, ala No Mans Land.

Misc. Burton / Best final showdown
Tue, 1 Dec 2009, 06:43
I don't think this has been done yet.

Which film has the best final showdown?

I've opened this up to the Schumacher & Nolan films as well.

Batman (1989) / Um...where's the credit?!
Mon, 9 Nov 2009, 04:15
Get a load of this, folks.

Comicbookmovie.com has run an article.

They say:

QuoteI was just going through some You Tube videos like you do and I came across a gold mine find. I found deleted stuff of what is one of the best Batman movies of all time, I thought I couldn't not share it with you guys at CBM, hope you enjoy the video, I sure did. Click here to see the video...

The video is from this site.

The ignorant fools. I mean, we like the exposure, but where's the credit?!

Batman Returns (1992) / Oswald means order!
Fri, 16 Oct 2009, 10:40
Imagine Batman was never able to show Gotham City the real Oswald Cobblepot.

Cobblepot is elected in a landslide and assumes the role of Mayor.

What do you think his tenure would have consisted of?

A few quick ideas from me:

Batman blacklisted and universally despised by Gotham City.

Crime totally controlled - it would probably stop altogether to help with election promises and the eventual re-election campaign.

Good thread idea, no?

Batman (1989) / Favourite Joker Gadget/Item
Wed, 30 Sep 2009, 10:12
Like his comic counterpart, Nicholson's Joker gets around with some pretty fun toys in Batman (1989).

I think they're all solid, but my vote goes to the long barreled gun.

Which one do you like most?

The Dark Knight (2008) / Worst cheesy moment
Sun, 20 Sep 2009, 14:54
The Dark Knight does have some annoying attempts at humour that just don't need to be there.

What's worst?

After voting, make sure you explain why you voted that way as well.

If I have left any out, let me know. I'm basing this off the last time I saw the film, which was a while ago.

Movies / Quentin Tarantino Appreciation
Sun, 23 Aug 2009, 12:29
Just saw Inglourious Basterds.

It's knocked me for six.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I've always been a Tarantino fan (I say that Pulp Fiction is not only one of my all-time favourites but also one of the best films ever made).

I'd been suspecting for a while that Tarantino was something of a spent talent who was now chiefly interested in goofing off with his buddies Rodriguez and Roth, who always seem to bring out the worst in him. Fifteen years ago, Tarantino was making wonderful films like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. In recent years, though, we've found him playing "guest director" on Sin City and helping to bring utter garbage like Hostel Part II into the world.

For my money, Inglourious Basterds is one helluva comeback. The Tarantino of 1992-97 is back and perhaps better than ever. In Inglourious Basterds, all the characters have distinct voices and personalities. And they're more human, more real, than any characters Tarantino has ever served up.

He's a sort of one-man Beatles of filmmaking. There's never been anyone quite like him. No one knows more about cinema (all genres and eras), or has such an instinctive and dazzling command of its language. Neither has anyone else displayed such mastery across a range of styles. No one writes dialogue like he does or tells a story as distinctively or grippingly as he does. The man is an genu-ine genius of film. The competition? He makes yer Marc Forsters and yer Christopher Nolans look like talentless wankers.

Over and above any of those things, though, and the reason I have such admiration for him, is that he's always walked it like he's talked it. He's always done things his own way. He's never sold out, never made a studio blockbuster just for the money, and he's the only filmmaker (well, apart from Werner Herzog) whom I can imagine actually risking life and limb if the need arose in order to capture that one perfect take instead of compromising. This is the man who (according to legend, anyway) was absolutely delighted when he was imprisoned for a short time (for non-payment of parking fines), because he saw it as an opportunity to gather some dialogue from real criminals. Tarantino may be a multimillionaire, but he's not and has never been a pampered Hollywood fake. He's the real deal, with a unique vision and seemingly boundless raw talent to match.

Not only every film geek in this world, but also every director in this world, and I don't care who they are, wants to be this man. He's a true superstar, a film director as rock star (of Michael Jackson proportions), and a total giant. Never shall we see his like again.

But, back to Inglourious Basterds.  I think it's a flawed masterpiece, but, let's face it, flawed masterpieces are so much more exciting than, well, masterpieces. And in terms of the sheer amount, the sheer awesome firepower, of raw filmmaking genius that's on display here, Inglourious Basterds is a very, very strong claim indeed for Tarantino as one of the greatest directors of all time. A wild, erratic, more than somewhat undisciplined great director (when you get down to it, though, aren't they all?), but a great director nonetheless.

Welcome back, Quentin. Welcome back.

Batman Returns (1992) / If Penguin Lived
Sat, 4 Jul 2009, 06:20
Alright, imagine the Penguin did not die from the toxic waste poisoning.

In some fluke of luck, he walks out perfectly fine.

What would happen to him?

Would the unmasked Batman fight and kill him ? or send him to jail like he claimed Max would?

Remember, The Penguin may have recognised Bruce Wayne.

Thoughts?

Misc. Burton / The Joker Lives!
Thu, 25 Jun 2009, 09:48
The Joker dies in Batman (1989).

But if he was going to survive, how would you do it?

Personally, I would have just left The Joker hanging onto the helicopter ladder and leg still tied to the gargoyle.

Don't have the gargoyle break off. He's going nowhere, as long as he hangs on to the ladder, he lives.

How would you have him survive?

Movies / Tim Burton's 'Alice In Wonderland'
Mon, 22 Jun 2009, 10:07
If ever there was a story seemingly tailor made for Tim Burton's eccentric style, Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland must be it.

USATODAY.com has a first look at the stunning concept art for Burton's adaptation.

Sit back, sip a martini and look in awe. This is direct from the mind of Tim Burton.

Batman (1989) / Joker's Balloons
Mon, 22 Jun 2009, 03:22
A few discussion questions for members regarding the Joker balloons.

What did you think of them?

How long do you calculate it would take to fill them with Smilex?

After Batman let them go with the Batwing, where do you think they finally ended up?

Have a favorite one? - post a screencap of it if you wish.
