Hey brothers. Well, it's that time of the year again. =]

I thought I'd share some webcam shots of my new 89 build. (yes a new one, lol) This year, I'm going all latex. I find that the BD 89 armor in latex fits my frame better than the urethane one since it's shrunk a bit.
I'm just average height, so this stuff fits me a lot better, I think. I'll wait till I piece it all together before really deciding.

I'll update this thread and explain as much as i can to anyone with questions.
The cowl is an RD movie production copy. The cape is one I made last year which will be replaced shortly with an RD cape copy soon. =]

Further note, the torso is a latex Bob Dullam.  I'm still pushing for even more screen accurate appearance so my job is nearly there, in terms of the suit itself. Many many thanks to all the brothers out there who helped me make this happen.

This is really as close as I ever gotten, so far, mostly due to the actual cowl made for the film. I got the rest of the pieces laying on my bed. Just waiting on my under suit so I can mount it all up. =]

Also, last year I really concentrated on the whole Michael Keaton look. But this year, I will have more of Dave Lea in mind. I've been watching the movie and pausing it in many fight scenes. He looks beast! Hope I can manage that look.
So, I have to practice my posture and movements again. I dont just want to be a guy wearing the 89 suit. I want to BE the 89 Batman. *crosses geek fingers* :P

Rock on dudes!

All i need to do is perfect the scallops at the end of the cape and add a secure harness to keep the cape from over spreading within the cowl and it should be perfect (for now)

You can see my updates on the BATMAN myspace account I made now. :)

Its completely coated with latex. Oh and there's pics of my new set of 89 leather gloves too as well as my spear gun prop.  ;)

Hope you enjoy the pics!

So... I know no one really cares about the MTV movie awards (since no one even mentioned it here) and rightfully so. MTV has become the pinnacle of crap television since the middle 2000's. But I won't get into that.

The thing that caught my attention not that long ago was the MTV Movie awards 2009 end results. And the reason why that was, was because a B-movie vampire movie (for kids and chicks) called Twilight (sp?) had beaten Nolan's BATMAN: The Dark Knight royally for best movie of 2009. I'm serious.

How the hell did this happen? I have no idea. But I remember laughing and saying the words B-LL SH-T.  :P

Here's the reference link btw in case you'd like to see the score from MTV awards yourself.

Ok.
So I went out on a limb and bought this small boxed Joker make up kit.

I wanted to open it and show you guys the contents and I also wanted to actually try the stuff on me even though it's literally 20 years old.

So here we go...

As you can see, Jack Nicholoson (greatest Joker ever) is on the box smiling away. I can almost hear him say "He's been using brand Xsssssss!"

Here's the back of the box with directions. Very simple and easy to understand.

Here's the contents. To be honest... I was expecting something more for some reason. But it makes sense. Red paint for lips. White for skin. And black for mixing in shadows etc.
Comes with a clean rag in packet and a plastic brush.
The paint is still moist and wet but also a bit chunky because its 20 friggin years old. EEESH!! lol..

Well....

After a few hours applying the stuff on... this is what came out.
Yes... It is crap. I look nothing like the Joker on the box art. This is clearly a prank make up kit. And you know what's the gag? IT DOESNT COME OFF!! HELP!!!  :'(

Hey buds! So at the card show in PA, I managed to score 2 boxes of Batman movie cards!  :)

These were unopened boxes and I thought I'd open a couple of packs for you guys with pics. The original Batman cards came with that neat promo poster and the Returns cards are just awesome in quality.
The 89 cards were printed on what looks like recycled card stock and are more sensetive to scuffing than the new stadium  version of Batman Returns card stock. But I really enjoyed these.

I do have an uncut roll of Batman 89 leaning on my wall in the back. I'll take a pic of that soon.  ;)

I'm sure you will notice the chip on the stick of gum here....  Yes. My best friend dared me to chew it... lmao.. its a stick of gum from 1989 and he totally dared me to take a bite... and I did...  :'(
I immediately spit the stuff out. OMG... It was like putting a hard chalky stick of old powdered "Sweet'n'low' sugar replacement sweetener in my mouth.. I tried to keep it in my mouth but i couldn't do it.

It had to be done. It was there. Begging to be chewed. lol. Never again.

These cards here are beautiful. Nice glossy finishes and high quality images printed on the cards..

Over all good stuff for 15 dollars.  :)

Here it is gentlemen  :)  Please forgive the lousy quality pics. My camera is bad at taking dim lit pictures for some reason..  :-[

Here's my new Returns cowl on me. I love it. Fits really well on my head.  :)

And now, my Batman 89 cowl  :)

I've been practicing Keaton's facial mannerisms last week so I can have it down by the time San Diego Comic Con is here in July 23rd. I really want to freak people out into thinking im really Batman lol...

This shot here is influenced by the part of movie where Jack Napier tells him "Nice outfit".  But I'm smirking too strong. I'll get it down with a bit more practice. And yes, its hilarious. But a whole lot of fun. lol ;)

This look here was influenced by that part in the film when Keaton crashes down from the ceiling to grab Vicki Vale and he makes this funny look with his mouth. I want to get this down for when I take pictures with any girl at the con. I want to sorta play that role live lol... I'll be gentle when I grab them though as I do not want to get smacked. lol...

more shots..

Welp, thats it for now. Hope you like em fellas. I will be working on my suit for the rest of the month. I should have everything set 100% by the time the convention gets here! Lotsa pics then! =]

I really want to role play the part so well. I hope to get as much mannerisms down as possible. Including the famous "bat turn".  ;D

Alright so, i just obtained a new cowl which is also a Bob D sculpt, like the others I posted, but the only difference is that this one seems to be a perfect fit (which is ironic because I was so convinced it wasn't at first, lol).

This could be my definitive cowl to wear with my 89 suit.  :)

I love it so far.
Let me know what you think!

BTW, I also recently managed to obtain a sweet Batman Returns Cowl. =] Still waiting for it to make its way over to my place from the UK. I'll post pics of that soon. :)

Overall, the comfort is really good because it's a bit loose compared to what I'm used to sporting.

Well... I hope this looks good. If it does, then great. Now I can move on to the next mission which is my 89 latex/fabric cape. >_<

Thanks for taking the time buds! Long live the 89!!

This the Michael Keaton Interview - Cinequest Film Festival 2008

At 14:40, Keaton talks about his experience with BATMAN and the bat suit. Not very lengthy in subject matter but still very interesting regardless! Check it out.  ;)

20 years of 89 / BATMAN 1989 Myspace Page
Tue, 24 Feb 2009, 14:07
Hey bat brothers.  :)
I recently began putting together a nice little BATMAN 1989 dedicated myspace page that I wanted to share with you all.
Its not ready yet and i have it in private mode for now with no friends listed on yet.

There's not one Myspace account thats dedicated to the 89 masterpiece so I felt it was my duty to support!  :D
20TH Anniversary style!

I did have a question though. I have collected a lot of pictures from the Bat archives over at this one website that stores a bunch of production pictures very similar to the ones you have on this site, however, I was wondering if it would be ok to upload some of the pictures posted here to the myspace account in the pictures archive???

(basically, im asking for permission)

I would love to post some of those nice Batman figure pics in them as well as the props and fan made props.

Im pretty ok with creating layouts to look professionally made so no worries about me making anything you have here look bad. I even created a banner that links directly back to this site.

I will have the page ready for view in a few days and I will come back and show it to you for membership and approval.

I plan to post my 89 costume pics there too.  ;)

Long live the 89!!!

Hi everyone! Batnar here. I was recommended to this site yesterday. So cool! And it's good to see some familiar bat faces too!  :)

Well, This would be my first attempt at an 89 suit and I really am enjoying this. I always wanted an 89 suit since I was a kid. This took forever and lots of effort to obtain parts while making the rest myself.
The cowl, chest and leg armor were sculpts by the awesome Bob D. The cape, vinyl coated under suit, gloves and boots were made by me. I obtained the belt and emblem from another fellow costume maker.

I will be collecting different items to see which fits the bill better for my body, height and overall look. I'm trying to get it as accurate as possible. So far, Im loving it. One day I will get me Reeves masterful 89 cowl too.

Enjoy the pics brothers!  ;)
