Looks like Aquaman has a pretty good cast, and I've grown increasingly interested in seeing this. Never been all that well versed in Aquaman comics, but I did enjoy the animated film Justice League Throne of Atlantis, and if Wan and Momoa can exceed that, then Aquaman will be off to a very good start!

Dolph's in this?! I'm sold.
Even without Dolph, I think this has the potential to be one of the more interesting upcoming superhero films. For one thing, no one's ever made a live action feature film about an oceanic superhero before. And secondly, James Wan is a very solid director. He's never made a great film, but he's made several highly entertaining ones (especially The Conjuring series). This decade in particular, Wan's been more or less consistent in the quality of his directorial output (Insidious 2 being the only blip). And it's nice to see him reteaming with Nite Owl II on what will be their fifth collaboration. So yeah, this one looks promising.
If Aquaman was made in the 80s, I can only imagine Cannon Films buying the rights, and Lundgren starring in the lead role. :D
^ Or, James Cameron would direct it.
Yes, of the numerous comic book films coming out in the next few years, Aquaman seems to be one of the most interesting.
Speaking of Wan, I loved some of the Insidious films too. Not masterpieces, but solid supernatural horror (well, more fantasy than actual scares). Material realm, spectral realm. Reminds me (https://youtu.be/VBIk3bedMwI?t=32) of something.

And if it were moderately successful, a sequel or two with a ridiculously cheap budget.
New Images of Amber Heard as Mera.

She looks great - I'm getting Poison Ivy vibes with the hair and green costume, which isn't a complaint but an observation. The costume's simplicity is its, er, greatest asset. Between Margot Robbie, Gal Gadot, Antje Traue, Amy Adams and now Amber Heard, the DCEU has a stunning female cast. This is fantastic because the Burton/Schumacher era had its fair share of stunners too. Basinger, Pfeiffer, Kidman, McPherson and Thurman don't need any introduction.
I can't ignore Amanda Waller either. With all of the what if? discussions around Suicide Squad, the positives seem to be forgotten. Waller is probably my favorite DCEU villain so far, even though I've enjoyed EisenLex and Zod. A cold, calculating b**** and played with quiet charm and menace.
The Nolan era didn't do much for me with its casting decisions in this department.
But back to Aquaman.
The JL trailer really sold me on this interpretation of the character. He seems to have a bit of everything with his tough/funny blend, and if they can capture that same vibe for the solo film, I honestly think it will be a crowd pleaser. Casting Momoa was clearly the right decision.

So looking forward to this. Already in love with Jason's Aquaman and madly in love with Amber's Mera. Add in Nicole Kidman and Dolph Lungren? I'm so in.
This Black Manta costume might well be my favourite DCEU costume to date. It's definitely my favourite villain costume. If it looks this good in the finished film, it'll be perfect.

Agreed. Everything I've seen of Black Manta's costume looks outstanding.
The classic orange and green costume!

Let's be honest. 5 years ago, did any of you think you'd see Black Manta in a movie?

Nah.
Seems to be an okay trailer.
Shazam is my pick of the two though.

This looks fun as hell.
The DCEU is fractured and in limbo, especially with the future of Affleck and Cavill up in the air. But I did enjoy the trailer. The visuals are striking. But what's more striking are the female leads. I'm not a big Nicole Kidman fan or anything, but damn. She looks amazing in this trailer. Just as good as her role as Chase Meridian in Batman Forever. And I'm not a big Amber Heard fan either, but damn...she also looks amazing. Two big motivators for me to see the movie.
Aside from Arthur's idiotic pee joke that belongs in an MCU Phase 3 film, I suppose the latest trailer, as well as the first one, promises Aquaman to be visually stunning.
But I think I'll wait till it hits home video. WB's disgraceful PR handling of JL is leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth. At the moment, I don't feel comfortable to support them at the theater.
Jason Momoa refers to when this film takes place after JL, specifically, in Zack Snyder's vision.

Following up to my last post, Momoa let out a resounding "f*** YEAH!" when asked if he wanted to see Snyder's version of JL.
https://twitter.com/MTVNEWS/status/1071159918126755840
But does WB have any plans in releasing it? And if not, why the hell should anybody go see their films?
This movie was tons of fun. It was a self-contained adventure with brisk pacing and a big payoff. Tons of destruction and gratuitous special effects in its many action sequences. The humor felt pretty natural, mostly coming from Momoa. I actually really loved the cast of the film, as many were already bonafide superhero/fantasy veterans; Dolph Lundgren was an underrated Punisher, Temuera Morrison was the iconic Jango Fett, Nicole Kidman was in the Batman series, and Willem Defoe was of course the Green Goblin. What an all-star lineup. Also, Black Manta was seriously cool
Key points from this article:
https://variety.com/2023/film/box-office/box-office-aquaman-2-flops-christmas-debut-1235850151/
Quote"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" failed to make a splash at the Christmas box office, debuting to $28 million over the weekend and an estimated $40 million through the four-day holiday weekend.
QuoteThe sequel cost $205 million and ranks among the worst debuts of the year for a superhero movie.
Quote"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is shaping up to be the fourth of four DC movies this year to crumble at the box office. Already in 2023, "The Flash" ($55 million debut), "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" ($30 million debut) and "Blue Beetle" ($25 million debut) majorly flopped in theaters.
The DC brand has been trashed with these movies. Reading through the Wikipedia plot outline shows that Aquaman 2 pushes climate change fear porn propaganda, so I'm really hoping the movie flops hard.

The way things are shaping up, I'd say you'll get your wish.
We all knew Aquaman II was going to struggle. I might have gone to see it if the studio had left Keaton's scenes intact. Alas, the powers-that-be decided the movie didn't need whatever additional momentum Keaton's Batman might've brought (which probably wouldn't have been much, judging by The Flash's box office performance). Instead WB precipitously announced Gunn's reboot, which guaranteed their entire 2023 DC slate would bomb. Announcing the reboot as early as they did will surely go down as one of the worst marketing decisions in studio history. Especially if Gunn's reboot also fails to deliver.
