Shouldn't Batman already have this in the Batcave? or maybe it was just to have a conversation with Alfred. thinking of this scene it would have been cool to see Alfred actually patching up Bruce.

I have an issue with stitches and seeing stuff going through skin (I nearly needed smelling salts after getting my belly button pierced) so I'm kind of glad they didn't get detailed lol. The scene at the beginning of The Dark Knight was bad enough.

That is a great question though! You would certainly think he'd have that and other stuff on hand. I'm sure Adam West was shaking his head in shame.
