About ten years ago I recall re-linking a ZDF broadcasting station's 1989 documentary on Batmania ("Batman-Welle") on here that I had found on YouTube. Unfortunately I didn't save it before it got deleted. All I found was a clip with a musician talking about Batman from said broadcast:

Among other things it included Michael Keaton arriving at a German airport, disco owners talking about Bat-Mania, unique behind the scenes material, etc.
So I turn to you in hope that someone downloaded the video off YouTube before it was deleted.

Besides being inspired by Metropolis, German Expressionism and Fascist Architecture, I recall the production designers mentioning a specific designer (possibly Japanese) who inspired them for the large vents installed in the Flugelheim Museum. I'd love to see more of that artist / architects designs.

Does anyone know what shoes Bruce Wayne wore to his black turtleneck and jeans outfit? You can't tell from the way the scene was staged, but are there any stills or behind the scenes clips that show his shoes?

I'm considering making a 1/6 custom 1989 Bruce Wayne I'd like to make as accurate to the film as possible.

I just found this item on play.com. It's a life-size Batman statue that is judging by the picture, based on the model kit's sculpt.
It comes in two scales 1:1 and 1:2. Does anyone have more information on the statue?

The line was announced in 2012, then a year ago they presented the prototype at SDCC only last year. But since then went awfully quiet. Many believed the line was completely cancelled, but today they finally revealed the figure in his full glory! It won't be a deluxe figure as previously speculated, but a single figure with the option of buying a two-pack with Bruce Wayne in tux that will come with exclusive torn cowl.

I purchased a 1989 and 1992 cowl off his 23/7 special offer sale last summer. I was prepared for the announced 6-8 week waiting period, but an additional seven months have passed since. I E-Mail him about once or every other month, and when he replies he tells me they'd go out the following week. He did promise including the painted emblems free of charge for each cowl to make up for the delay, which did hold me over for a couple more months.

This is my first ever prop replica order and a dream come true, but the scale is tipping towards it feeling more like a frustrating experience. There is the option of getting the money refunded, but after anticipating these cowls for such a long time I just can't give up on them. I even bought a Keaton headcast that is waiting to be used.

Has anyone on here ordered from Paul in the past, or during the 23/7 sale in particular? How soon did you receive your pieces?

I always enjoy listening to his Podcasts but I am unsure whether or not to listen to the two audio commentaries, since I'm weirdly sensitive listening to critical comments towards movies I like.
He's a deep admirer of the 1989 film, but from what I've heard he didn't like Batman Returns as much, or at least thought it came off as campy when he recently re-watched it.

Did anyone listen to them?

Awesome! I really hope "The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy" will be featured on this album. That moment when Batman is forced to remove his mask at the wax museum gave me chills since I first saw it as a kid.

Here are pictures of my recent acquisitions. I've been wanting to get these larger scale figures for quite a long time and coincidentally managed to find both of them from two local sellers within a week. Enjoy!

Did anyone by any chance save the pictures shadowbat69 had posted of his custom ToyBiz/ Kenner figures way back in 2007/8?
I'd love to see them again, but his Photobucket account is no longer active and he hasn't posted anything on here in over two years.

If I recall correctly he made the following customs:

Joker (Knockout Joker repaint)
Vicky Vale (blue dress)
Alfred
Bob the Goon (repainted)
Batcave (repainted)
Batmobile (with roof)

Just got pointed out this this documentary shown on German TV in 1989 covering the phenomenon.
Nearly 25 minutes of unique footage, probably never aired outside of that broadcast.

Enjoy!

If anyone needs any explanations or wants specific passages translated, let me know.

Batman (1989) / Joker was here!

Does anyone know if the beautiful painting of railway tracks the Joker puts a signature on is a pre-existing painting or if it was created specifically for the movie? If it's a pre-existing painting, any information on what it's called and who created it?

It's such a cool painting, fits right in the movie. Stylistically it also reminds me of the art deco railway system/ public transportation system from Batman: The Animated Series.

I would like to have it hanging in my apartment, with or without the Joker's signature.  8)

Batman (1989) / Locations?
Tue, 6 Apr 2010, 15:40
Okay, two things:

1) Has it ever been established where Joker's "hideout" is located? It doesn't look like Carl Grissom's area. It looks like an area in the Axis Chemical Factory. Interesting set design that seems to pay a little homage to the 1966 series.

2) In the Making Of book from 1989, it is stated that the Batcave is located close to the foundations of Gotham City. In the concept design of the Batcave it can be seen in the form of walls/ pillars and sewer pipes. However, in the movie Wayne Manor/ the Batcave is located far out of the city limits, yet the elements from the concept drawing are still present. Any official word if, in the movie, the Batcave's wall structures are meant to be the foundation of Gotham City?
I never thought about this until I read it in the Making Of/ Souvenir book.

Parts of Michael Jackson's personal property is being auctioned off between April 22th-25th by Julien's Auctions at the Beverly Hilton, including a lifesize Batsuit based on the BATMAN design. The interesting thing about it though, is that the sculpted face underneath the mask is that of Michael Jackson.

Is that price of $200-$300 the estimated price the auctioneers expect it would bring in or is it the starting price? In any case, it seems pretty low to me.

Have a look-see flip-through the virtual catalogue. There are some really cool items in there.

There's a Atari Batman arcade on page 48 (757), the other Batman related items are on page 70-71.

This sounds quite bizarre!
I'll try reserve my judgment, but reading about Tim Burton directing a new Batman project does sound thrilling.

Yes, it finally happens! The late Shirley Walker (R.I.P.), Lolita Ritmanis and Michael McCuistion receive the recognition they deserve for their incredible work in the form of a 2-Disc CD release by La La Land Records.

If they all sell, maybe La La Land Records will produce more!

Customs / Custom Batman toys and collectibles
Fri, 21 Nov 2008, 01:01
I just thought, maybe a thread to post customs would be in order.

Recently, I found a link that shows Cory Smith's beautifully sculpted maquettes:
http://www.corysmithart.com/BTASHome.htm

Most of the sculpts are from The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

I wonder if he's selling them?

Look, what I just found:

http://ironheadstudio.com/?page_id=8

Is it just me, or is that Michael Keaton's head on the Batman maquette?
I'm not sure why these pictures are posted in the Batman Returns section.
Some of them clearly seem like Batman Forever era work- you can see the redesigned Batmobile in the back of one picture.
Also, the final cowl clearly shows that it's fitted on a Val Kilmer head.

Anyway, all of those pictures where new to me, so I thought I should post them here for everyone else to see. They have a nice "What if?" feel to them.

I just found this on YouTube the other day.
This documentary features a wide variety of cool stuff.
From Storyboards to showing Mark Hamill perform his Joker lines.
I really wish the WB would acquire the rights to include this with a future Batman: Mask of the Phantasm Blu-Ray.
