The first version of the prologue I saw had subtitles. If it weren't for that fact, I wouldn't have understood what he was saying. There were a few times in the finished film when I missed what he said, but by and large I understood him. And I could finally hear the Caribbean accent Hardy had mentioned in interviews.

I don't quite understand why some people are insisting Nolan should have retained the incomprehensible audio from the prologue.
