Title: Mardi Gras costume influences?
Post by: The Laughing Fish on Tue, 28 Nov 2017, 12:11
For all the talk about the neon lighting and the "provocative" Batsuits in Schumacher's movies, I can't help but feel a lot of the villains and gangs in these movies certainly have this Mardi Gras influence. The villains in the Burton films were mostly Gothic, with the exception of the Joker goons who were dressed like bodyguards, but Schumacher brought this flair, whether you love it or hate it, that makes the atmosphere resemble a party.

Okay, with the Golums in BF, they're resemble more of a Satanic ritual gathering, but still.

I don't think we've seen such colour and flamboyant attire up until maybe Suicide Squad.

That Poison Ivy costume is actually pretty close to the comics.

I saw this picture today of somebody by the name of Janelle Monae dressed up in a suit which strongly resembles Two-Face's costume from Batman Forever.

The Jenners dressed up as Two-Face's mistresses for Halloween.

Given their following, I wonder if "Batman Forever" had a uptick in streaming views, and physical media disc sales, to some extent?

Kudos to Fish for picking up on this. I wouldn't have thought to connect the styling of some of the costumes to Mardi Gras. But once you point it out, it's hard NOT to see it. Surprised I never picked up on it sooner.
