I found this Twitter account called Hidden Easter Eggs posting the following:

Quote
During the 'Watchmen' (2009) opening credits, the original Nite Owl rescues Thomas and Martha Wayne from a thief outside the Gotham Opera House, preventing the need for Bruce Wayne to become Batman in this universe:

I remember the 1940 Batman #1 comic book posters appearing in the background, but I never noticed all the other details, such as the incident taking place in front of the Gotham Opera House and the onlookers resembling the Waynes. Snyder even paid homage to Martha's pearl necklace, and as you can see very carefully, Thomas has a bruise on his cheek and is clutching his stomach, possibly from a gun shot wound. He must've gotten into a scuffle with the mugger before Hollis Mason came to the rescue.

I believe I would've made the connection between this and Bruce Wayne spared from becoming Batman a lot better if there was a kid in the background with his parents. Otherwise, it's still a great little homage.

Did anybody caught these Easter eggs on their first viewing?
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.
