Batman Group Editor Mike Marts leaves DC Comics to join Marvel

DC’s Batman Group Editor Mike Marts is returning to Marvel Comics in February, Marvel announced this afternoon. Marts had previously worked at Marvel as Senior Editor for 10 years until 2006 overseeing such titles as New X-Men and Astonishing X-Men.

Since 2006 Marts has worked at DC as Group Editor on the Batman titles.

Marts will join Marvel as Executive Editor of as-of-yet unnamed title(s).

"Mike Marts is a seasoned veteran who's edited some of the most critically acclaimed and highest-selling series of the last decade," said Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso in a statement. "I'm overjoyed to see him return home, and I can't wait to see what he brings to Marvel!"

"It's amazing to see how Marvel has grown as a company since I worked there last,” Marts added in the announcement. “I am beyond thrilled to be rejoining this powerhouse at such an exciting time."

The move surely follows DC's decision to move operations from New York to Burbank, California. Many DC staff are expected not to move West and Marts is the highest profile person to jump ship.  We have no word yet on who will take over on Batman.
