Using a model photo and the 1 shot of the original ending, I made this:

It's a shame not even the raw footage has been released

Great job! The darkness and absence of neon lighting in that picture is exactly what I imagined the film should've looked like.

The last page of the movie's comic adaptation is similar to that, if I recall.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

Yep, the comic opted for the scripted ending. No ending is objectively better than the other, they both portray the same triumphant feeling that ended the first film. But the original seems more "iconic" and fitting for the character. Maybe they didn't want to do the same ending shot three times in a row.

I read that the Batsignal ending was originally filmed for a commercial but Shumacher like it because it would give his film a distinct ending from that Burton ones.

Do you know which commercial it was? I always thought that Batman and Robin running as the Batsignal lights up in the background was meant to be a homage to the 60s TV show.

I have no idea, maybe for the toys? Hmm thats interesting as well!

I liked the running ending. Like TLF said, it was like a nice tribute to the '60s show (and maybe a hint of what was to come in B&R lol). It was real heroicy with the music and stuff too. All that said this would have been cool too. I think. Maybe my computer screen is too dark but I can't really tell how the pic looks :-\

Nah, it's not you, the source pic I used was super dark from a small image on a magazine. I wish they released the rest of the Deleted Scenes as well, we need a directors cut!!

The ending here has what would have been something similar to the initial ending of the film.  Im not sure, I like both, like what we got suits the film and is almost iconic now, I cant imagine anything else.  But the original one, if it were used, I dont know, Im sure I'd be stoked on it I guess.

Wow, I've never seen that ad before. I like how the glimpses we saw look very similar to the Burton films than the Schumacher's neon lights. My only reservation about ending the film like that is Robin seems out of place just standing by as Batman charges at the escaped convict.

The song comes across as a James Bond-type theme song sung by Nine Inch Nails.  :-\
