Title: Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (2018)
Post by: Silver Nemesis on Sun, 14 Jan 2018, 00:12
This definitely isn't my cup of tea, but I figured we should probably have a thread about it since Robin is a lead character. It looks... well...

Does the Teen Titans Go! TV series have a strong following and I just never heard about it? Why else would Warner Bros be releasing this in theatres while something like Batman Ninja goes straight to DVD?

The show is Cartoon Networks highest rated, so much so that it gets the majority of the channel's airtime.

Really? I had no idea the show was that popular. It always slipped under my radar.

The movie's theatrical release makes more sense now. It'll be interesting to see what the box office returns are like.

I should clarify by also pointing out the demographic for it is kids. Most teens/young adults hate it with a vengeance.
Me personally, it's pretty mediocre and lowbrow, but it makes me laugh.

Here's our first preview of Nicolas Cage as the voice of Superman. Also note the Batman 89 poster font at the start of the trailer.

That looks like the few episodes of the show I watched: painfully, PAINFULLY stupid.

I get light hearted, I love Justice League Action for instance, but mindless is a no for me.

Nic's Superman voice isn't that bad though tbh.

I watched most of this last week. My nephews and niece love the Teen Titans Go! television series, so I got them the DVD of this film for Christmas. They loved it. It's full of juvenile fart gags and toilet humour that would make most adults roll their eyes, but which little children seem to find hilarious. It's also packed with meta-humour that breaks the fourth wall to reference earlier Batman and Superman films and classic comics. Those jokes are more likely to land with grown-up fans that have a deeper knowledge of the lore. Take the following clip, for example.

The rapid-fire nature of the gags is impressive, even if most of them are geared towards a more juvenile sensibility. Most of the recent live action Batman films have been unsuitable for kids, but this offers a decent alternative for younger fans of Batman and Robin. I only saw about 70% of the movie, but what I saw was entertaining. I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of it at some point.
